well I shot my new shield today.shooting to the left so I tried tapping the sight nothing.
I got home and used a bigger hammer nothing,
looks as if smith milled the dovetail bad because a endmill/dovetail cutter possebly broke.
I used a vise screwed up the sight still nothing, will not move
Im unhappy now.
just sent S&W pics of both sides
first pic the bad machining, second pic where I screwed the sight up.
I really dont want to send it back

I'm going to do an apex kit on mine, and I'll be switching out the sights also. Don't know how but I'm going to figure some way to press these sights off. I've read a bunch of horror stories about getting the rear sight out.

Update
After thinking more I put it back in the vise It took 80 to 100 ft lbs to finally move it.
No way you could ever move mine by tapping it,you need a press.
Its on center now.but still damaged

Did you see the poor milling marks to the left ?
That sight should not be that tight

Have you shot handguns a lot? Did you try dry firing to see if you were pulling the gun left?

Regarding the sight, I wouldn't sweat it. I'd hit it with some touch up and if it's secure, shoot it until you replace the sights.

I had sights replaced on mine and my gunsmith didn't have any problems removing them, but I think he has a proper sight pusher.

Unless the sights are visibly off in their dovetail from the factory,in which case take a pic and send it to the manufacturer before you shoot it, is more than likely the shooters fault.

There are hundreds of posts on the internet as to how near impossible the sights on a Shield are to move. A gunsmith, or at lease a proper sight pusher, is usually required to accomplish this without damage to the gun. I had my stock Shield sights replaced in fifteen minutes. The gunsmith wanted $10 and I happily gave him a twenty.
Home gunsmithing on a known problem is not the best idea. It can lead to all sorts of feeding, extracting, and overall cycling issues later.

Yes it was off a good bit. Not on center from the factory.
Now its on center.I Will see what happens next week at the range.
Now Im thinking I should have got a different gun.
That G27 is looking better and better now.

I know just upset. I expect perfection from a new gun.
Im going to give it some time. I dont likebthe trigger either.I know its a S.D gun not a range gun

They should not advertise the front sight to be adjustable if you have to heat it up and or use a press.people go to the range and want to adjust the sights there.how many ranges Will let you bring in a tourch.
Trigger is heavy for me.I like 5 to 6 lbs

If that were my gun, I'd take a small stone to the left over burrs.....smooth them out and then put a little metal black on the bare metal..... problem fixed...

IMO.... It's just a Shield, they'll never be collectors items and if they are really used as they were intended ( concealed carry)....they'll look a lot worse by the time you're done with it. Just a tool, not a work of art ( for me)....

Does it shoot accurately and reliably ?? That's all that matters.....JMO.mike:)

PS: the sooner you get that 1st scatch on it, the sooner you can relax and use it like a tool !

Now that I got it centered Im gona shoot it if its good Im gona grind it down fill the damaged area with jb weld being carefull not to weld it to the gun.stone it and paint it.
Last thing I want is to send it to smith

Reminds me....

I some how damaged 1st rifle, a 10/22. A piece of the rear sight broke off. Being in my early teens, I made do with what I ahd... which wasn't much.

JB to the rescue. I let it set to more of a putty consistency and form a new right side of the rear sight. Then a black sharpie to match.

You can tell for sure. But Ive never replaced it.

Well got a response from S&W they said they would send a prepaid label to me but if it was determined not under warrenty they would then give me a price to repair it.Looks like it's not going to smith for this,I didn't want to send it anyway's thats why I tried so hard to move it myself.
If it shoots at point of aim I will be happy, just a little rework needed and it will be good.

The sights on my Shield are all beat up also. They were way off when I got the gun.

I heard that the sights on the first Shields that were produced would come loose and move or fall out. S&W tightened up the dovetails to the point that it's impossible to move them without marking them up.
I think they are using a robot to put the sights in them now.

The trigger on mine was really rough so I took it apart and did some polishing. That took the grittiness out of it. It still breaks at 7.75- 8lb which is hard to shoot accurately unless it's the only gun you ever shoot.

I watched a Youtube video about how to take the striker out of it. The rear sight has to be removed. The video guys sights on his Shield were all beat to hell also.

It is a very good shooting gun and very accurate after you get used to the trigger. I could get a Apex trigger kit for it but it's not in my budget right now and it is my ccw so I don't know if I want a light trigger in it anyways.

I think you mean the Striker Block.

Removing the Striker doesn't require removal of the rear sight...it just takes a punch to depress the retaining collar

Gotta love Bubba gunsmithing. It's shooting left because you are not a very good shot and are jerking the trigger.

No, the actual sights were not falling out, the white dot paint in them were.

Mine shoots left too. And no, I don't jerk the trigger.
You an see that the front sight (on mine) is too far to the right. I'm thinking the next time I'm at the range to have the smith push it for me. Wouldn't take much but it is off about 2-3" at 15 feet.
