Took my 4 hour ccw renewal class today here in Kern County CA. Instructor said the county had increased the number of handguns we could list on the permit from 3 to 10. The front of the permit has room for 3 and the additional guns will be printed on the back. This is a pleasant shocker.

I will list 10 guns on my permit. I have 14, so I've got choices to make.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!

Man, I was born and raised in California, but you couldn't make me move back there at gunpoint! A limit on what guns you can carry with your permit?!?

In my county in CA you have to qualify with your max 3 weapons. I am happy with 3 given I only have 1.

Here in my county, you only qualify with one handgun and it doesn't matter whether it is one on your permit or not.

The Tennessee permit laws were changed a few years ago to specifically FORBID collection of make/model/serial number information. You qualify on what you want and carry what you want. The law ensures that the state realizes that it is none of their business!

Colorado's like that, too, I think. You can apply for either a revolver or autoloader permit, or both, and your gun you're licensed to carry is listed on it.

Not only does Florida not require you to tell the state what you intend to carry, it does not even limit you to one gun at a time.

+1 on Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

I'm glad I live I the free part of the country. No classes or qualifying in my Sweet Home Alabama. For new applicants, pay $20 and walk out the door with your CPP after a background check. Heck they even laminate it for you. Renewable by mail.
You can open carry without a permit and carry in your car without a permit.

I consider my self one of the lucky ones in California to have a permit. It only took 7-8months from start to finish.

Another “Plus” on that Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

But, I have to wonder, what’s a permit to carry?

Posted from the Constitutional Carry State of Arizona. Sorry guys, I just couldn’t help myself. :neener:

TX recently dropped the requirement that you qualify with an autopistol if you want to carry an autopistol. Now the only requirement is that you must qualify with a gun of 32 caliber or greater.

Once you have your permit, then you can carry any legal pistol you want to in any caliber you prefer. And you can carry as many as you want at one time.

There is no requirement to tell them what you plan to carry or to provide any information at all about the gun(s).

I'm happy for the OP but I have to wonder if it's just another way for the government in CA to collect more information.

No guns are listed on the PA LTCF (License To Carry Firearms) You get your carry the same day as long as you're not a criminal as it should be. Open carry is legal for all.

Any handgun I own legally (lawfully acquired as a non prohibited person) I can carry on my Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit. Also, with a THCP I can transport rifles and shotguns in the passenger compartment of my truck (which I have to do until I replace the broken lock on the bed cover).

We used have a county sheriff discretionary permit system aka special deputy badge, and the pistol you might be allowed to carry had to be registered with the sheriff's department if you lived in the county or the city police if you lived in the city. Also handgun purchase required CLEO sign off on a purchase permit with up to fifteen days allowed for BG check and approval/denial. We moved away from that kind of over-regulation over the years, so there may be hope for California.

So what guns will you choose? What guns will be left out?

Out of my 14 handguns, 5 are not registered (bought them before the registration requirement) and CA requires all ccw guns to be registered.

My choices are now simplified; Colt 1911, Glock G26, KAHR PM9, BHP, S&W Airweight 38, S&W 625, Ruger Single Six, Ruger SRH .454 Casull.

Leaving out old revolvers, a few 22 pistols.

You mean.... you don't know that AZ has a CWP? :what:

And that you need one to carry in any restaurant that serves alcohol?

No registered CHP list for individuals in VA.

And, for those of us who had been issued VA CHPs prior to the "new" Shall Issue legislation in 1995(?), no course or range requirements, thank goodness.

Actually, I am not sure what the application requirements are in VA because all I needed to know was that info about prior licensees. :D

I remember as a kid watching some cop show with Dad (Dragnet maybe?) where an officer asked a guy if he had a 'permit' for that gun...

I asked Dad, "What's a permit"?

:uhoh:

Seems like pretty much all TV shows have the same situation.

Of course because of that, people who don't know any better assume that anywhere in the US, you need a permit for a gun.

Also, with a THCP I can transport rifles and shotguns in the passenger compartment of my truck (which I have to do until I replace the broken lock on the bed cover).
.

Wow...didn't know Tennessee was that gun unfriendly.
The passenger compartment is where I ALWAYS transport my guns.

Luckily as of a few years ago, there is no permit required to carry a concealed and loaded handgun in an unlocked compartment in your car either.

I am glad I live where I can carry anything I want and I don't have to list it for nobody
