Is it just me, am I paranoid?

Maybe so but I am ok with that. Better safe than sorry.

Ok so I am from backwoods USA, and while on vacation I found myself in traffic in downtown Atlanta with thousands of people. I could reach out and touch the person in the vehicle next to me. Walk for miles on cars and never touch the ground. Anyway, I always pack my m&p in the console my car gun of course but I began feeling overwhelmed. As I looked around I began to feel like my 10, 12, or even 15 rounds would not be enough if anything were to happen at that moment.

Anybody else ever felt this? I am sure those city dwellers have come to live with this feeling but not me.

I can guarentee that I will add numerous magazines to my car for just such a time like I just experienced

My only worries about being in the city involves trying to get out if something happens. Hard to compete with mobs of people all trying to do the same thing.

I drive in Atlanta from time to time and am Fully Armed. That is gun fully loaded with two spare mags for reloads. That is 46 rounds, plus pepper spray for less than lethal. If I get involved in a mob issue, the loudest barking thug of the group gets the first rounds and we will see what happens next after I start driving over the perps. I also know where not to go in town. That is a good thing to know anywhere you may travel.

You're paranoid.

The vast majority of those people don't have one thought in their head about you. They're all just trying to get on with their lives, get to work, pick the kids up from karate practice, etc.

I feel the same way in big cities, but i'm aware that it's a stress response on my part and not really a rational response to an actual threat. Big difference between what COULD happen and what's actually remotely LIKELY to happen.

Yes, you're paranoid and should seek some help. Finding other who share you paranoia doesn't really help the core issue. It must suck to live in such fear.

unless this is all tongue-in-cheek...

Am I missing something? What "perps" are we talking about running over? Driving through Atlanta is a might frustrating, but last I checked mobs were not attacking THR members in droves there.

Yes, my friend, I'm afraid a touch of paranoia is revealing itself here. Millions of us have a name for the scenario you describe. I like to call it "driving to work" :)

Were those commuters or were they Orcs and Goblins?

Not only is that paranoia, it's ignorance of the proven facts. When you shoot a few people, the rest run away from you. They don't keep coming to be shot themselves.

I suspect he is imagining a scenario like that unfortunate cement truck driver in the LA Rodney King riots. Wrong place wrong time when it broke out, rare but it happens.

Much like I don't generally worry about a bridge collapsing while I'm driving over it, but it has happened several times I'm aware of, in Oakland (earthquake) and Minneapolis (corrosion).

I did carry extra firepower and ammo in the car when the Travon Martin verdict was approaching, just in case, but every day, nah it'd be like staying out of tall buildings because you are afraid of another 9/11.

This. Fear of cities is a bit overblown, I grew up in the country myself and now live in a decent sized metro area (though my house is a bit more on the outskirts). Even in the worst neighborhoods have a felt anything close to what the OP expressed.

You seem to have anxiety on a very high level. Perhaps seeing your family physician is a good idea. I'm not being a wise guy, these kinds of conditions are very treatable if you have been under stress or had an incident that was overwhelming in your life, the ability to mix fantasy and reality is defiantly worth exploring with your doctor.
The idea that a crowded city would somehow lead one to worry about having enough ammunition is not a healthy thought.

Think of how the big, dark scary woods or mountains scare those city folk, should they get stranded there. Oh, and don't forget "Deliverance". :D

A situation even Reginald Denny could have avoided by staying in the vehicle and moving slowly forward until he was clear. 30 years ago I volunteered to drive a school bus for a local church. This was a full-sized bus, and we went to the highest crime area of town to pick up kids. One Wednesday night I drove down a street with the locals playing football in the road. I interrupted their game, and they were pissed. They blocked the bus, and demanded that I get out. With 40 kids on that bus, there was no way I was opening that door. They started punching and kicking the bus, screaming obscenities, and as I was laying on the horn and inching forward, more folks were joining in. Soon I had 30-35 folks trying to stop that bus. I leaned out the window and told them, while continuing to inch forward, there was no way that bus was coming to a stop. I kept going, gently bumping folks until they moved. Eventually enough of them moved from in front of me that I could get some speed and get off that street. I never felt my life was in danger, because The Lord, and 40,000lbs of bus were on my side.

I've never been to Atlanta (other than a layover at the airport), and only have heard bad things about it. I've no intentions of going there; you'd have to point a gun to my head to make me. lol.

You're not paranoid. I think it might just be the area of Atl you were in. I've been to populated cities like LA, NYC, and Manila. I think Atlanta is a differnt beast due to the city's very large metropolitan area.

Actually, paranoid may not be correct. Sociopath seems more appropriate. If you see crowds and focus on a perceived need for more ammo so you can shoot more people is disturbing.

Is this what THR is about? Is this even a reasonable discussion? Should you be disarmed ???

I understand if you lived in the country, I was raised and currently live in the country but in uruguay, south america. And it is not like in the US, we have no highways, the closest town is 30 km away and it has nothing in it, just a bunch of houses and thanks god they always have ammo in the local gas station, and because of the lack of any gunshop they sell guns in the gas station too. But I like living here, you have Miles and miles of natural gun ranges.

The sensation of being in a crowded (or heavily populated) place, in my opinion, probably shouldn't make you unusually apprehensive unless there is some additional element that suggests danger or potential danger.

How many people there are around you shouldn't make you question how much ammunition you carry, unless there is some reason for you to think that a significant number of the people around you might violently attack you and you might have to fend them all off.

I guess what I'm saying is that there's nothing wrong with not liking crowds. I don't like crowds; at times the sensation of being in a crowded place is quite unpleasant. That said, I have never looked around at the people that surround me and thought that I need more ammo because I'm in a crowd and might need to shoot a lot of people. I don't think that kind of line of thought is completely normal.

Maybe not so much paranoid and more not understanding the environment. Normal traffic jams are just people going to work or going home from work. They are not bandits. And it wouldn't make sense to turn bad guy in the middle of a traffic jam, since there is no escape. You would be a sitting duck for the police on motorcycles.
