Old friend stopped by the house today and asked me if I might be interested
in something he had. He said he had to buy three guns to get the one he really
wanted and this was one of them. I don't really know what I'm going to do with
it. It was made in 1987, has the Krist 45 Colt cylinder with it. It appears to be
new. Got the box, and manual and nipple wrench. Might sell it all together or
play with it for a while. Don't really need it, but I hate to pass up a Ruger.

Can i be first inline if you decide you dont need it?

Im curious what gun he wanted to have to get that one?

It looks older than 1987 with the alum. grip frame and non pinned front sight. Since you don't need it why don't you gift it to someone that does? Just kidding.

No, but if you google ROA serial numbers there is a chart that will tell you. It's an early model as it has the alum. gripframe.

I dont have it anymore, i didnt think ide ever shoot BP so i got rid of it and wish i still had it.

if the front site is original it was made in 1972(1st year production)serial # should be below 140-00800

I put some different grips on it, put a trigger shoe, trigger stop, slicked up the
action a little. Slugged the barrel which is .451 groove dia. Slugged the
chambers which are .452 dia. This ought to shoot! Think I will shoot it some.
Now the Krist 45 Colt converter. I really don't have a need for this.
Oh the serial number places it at 1987. Grip frame is not steel. Front sight is not
pinned. I thought the pinned ones were just on the SS models. Problem, I don't
have a single 457 ball!!. Ain't that a bitch! Oh well, I have a friend that will let
Me have a few until I can get to Friendship. I do have several hundred .465 balls.

Ruger supposedly switched from Aluminum to Steel grip frames in 1985, but the following statement may help explain why the serial number seems to imply "1987"

Ruger states they do "not produce firearms in serial number order. There are occasions when blocks of serial numbers have been manufactured out of sequence, sometimes years later. Also, within a model family the same serial number prefix may be used to produce a variety of different models, all in the same block of serial numbers. And in some cases, models may be stored for a length of time before they are shipped."

One way to help date a ruger is the warning rollmark.
Ruger started putting the Read the Manual warning on in the 70's. I've seen several references that stated they adding it to there entire product line between 1977 & 1978 and announced it in Ruger Newsletter, vol. 1, NO. 4, June, 1978

I have one made in 76 and it has no prefix like others I have seen. It is stainless and has a pinned front sight which really has me baffled.

Phil that's a fun project. I'm looking forward to some action shots from the range, and some photos of your groups with this gun.

Can't have too many ROAs!!

Put another different pair of grips on, took this picture with my I-Pad. I think it
does better than my high dollar Fuji camera That I took the other picture with.

My mistake ,the 1st picture looked like it had a flat top front sight to me but after talking to Phil and seeing his second picture it is not what I thought.

I got another one today, not as cool as yours though.

I put an add on that gun classifieds website you gave me the link for wanting cheap black powder guns and i got a few calls.

Got it for $100. its Euro Arms BS date code. I like the front sight on this one better then my Pietta.
