Kaido's Bullet In A Pietta '58

I've seen it mentioned that bullets/conicals don't load well in a Pietta '58. I just so happen to have some 240 grn Kaido bullets designed for repros.

Here's my video showing how the bullet will need to be canted to work around the edge of the frame.



I'm thinking about working on this edge just so that I don't need to finagle the bullets.

A member here made me a nice folding loading stand for my ROA. The upright doesn't fit my new NMA so I'll be going down the street to a retired military fellow who enjoys woodworking, and will make me an upright that I can swap out.

I have a bunch of speed loader tubes to use at the range, and intend on buying another cylinder for hunting excursions.

I'm also considering smoothing that edge so that it's not so prominent.

You can (and I did) load 'em up in your spare time and use them for premeasured powder charges.

You use your projectile to stop the end of the tube.

It certainly ought to make range days get more lead down range, especially if you are on a range that calls cease fires as mine does.

No. I've yet to get out to the range still, though I do have tubes loaded and ready to go!

The first 3 rows ar 25 grns of 3F Olde E, the 2nd set are 30 grn, the 3rd set are 35 grns. and the last few are 40 grns.

They have a bottom. It's only open on one end. They are a soft, flexible, and reusable rubber.

I think they are also nice when someone who's somewhat interested goes with you. Of the 3 people who have gone with me 2 of them were put off by how it takes to reload.

I also have the longer tubes for my .50 cal rifle.

Dixie hasn't restocked them in a VERY long time. Bower found the source, and so I went there.

Bower is a fellow here. He, too, was looking for them at Dixie, who hasn't restocked them for a loooong time. He found the source for them, which is Winchester Sutler in VA.

I've yet to use these tubes, and prior had been either using a flask and measure, as well as paper cartridges, which was fun, but these seem quick enough, and if you'd possibly want to weigh your charges for better consistency than I see it being more beneficial. I'm not that anal though.

Squeezing the tube should pop the ball out and allow an easy pour of the powder followed by the ball and rammed. I can't see it being easier to use a flask, but I've never used the flask as I've seen some do in videos. Doing it that way seems to allow for more variance from charge to charge. I am that anal about it. I do like to be as consistent as I can without getting too wound up about it.

I'm certainly not doing it enough! It's been a while since I've been to the range. I usually go once or twice a month, but I've wanted to ask if I could just pitch my tent off to the side and stay there!

I certainly don't care enough to weigh out the charges. For me it's about getting plenty of practice in. My first range trip with my new rifle, along with my pistol, was 6 hours long and I only shot about 50 shots through them both.

When I made paper cartridges I was able to shoot that many in maybe an hour (pistol). And that's a big deal to me as I've often been going to the range with a neighbor, and I doubt he'd want to spend all day there as I'm willing to do.

Having premeasured charges that can be carried afield is nice too. Less stuff to carry and concern myself with.

And trying to hold someone's attention is easier when it's quicker. Not many are willing to shoot just 6 shots in 10 minutes. I don't mind so much, but not many are so patient.

Yea…I see several of them at the range each time. It's funny how their 7 yd targets have holes ALL over it.

What's even funnier is when they have the laser on theirs and at 7 yds it still has holes ALL over it!

But at least they are trying I suppose...
