I wonder if I am over looking something. Some Glock owners seem to think everything else is inferior to a Glock. I don't see it...I own a Glock,FNS,XD,Berretta,M&P,and a Sig.All are fine guns, quality guns but other than personal preferance I can't find anything that would make one gun so much better than the other..can anyone honestly tell me what I am over looking,if I am overlooking anything at all. Thanks

I don't concern myself with what other gun owners think. You'll find pubescent behavior in every group of gun owners, regardless of brand/type. I like Glocks; also like 1911s and other handguns.

What is wrong with you? You should not compare the great Glock to any of those inferior pieces of garbage!

I'm just kidding. One thing I will say is that Glock is better because it is more popular than the others. Popularity means more aftermarket support (training, gunsmithing, parts) and more availability.

Other than that, I think they're all fine guns. I lean towards the polymer-frame, striker-fired pistol, and there are tons of those on the market that I would recommend, and a few that I wouldn't recommend that are probably still good. I think anyone that says Glocks are better than the others is usually just a fanboi. They all have their perks.

All the guns you own are good quality makes. No reason why they wouldn't be on the order of Glock in terms of accuracy and function. It's kind of like asking, "Which brand of airliner is going to get me from Chicago to Los Angeles safer - The Airbus or the Boeing?"

When the failure rate is low enough, it may not matter.

Well glock must have did something right because if you take apart a sr, m&p, fns, ppq, and many others they look really glockish inside. The glock like design is a proven performer and other companies took it and added things to it, like better trigger, interchangeable back straps, external safeties for those who are in need of that, metal guide rod and list goes on. With that said, I trust my g23 with my life and have for many years but my walther ppq is the new gun I have and i have to say I like it more. I also like my sr and m&p more. The glock is a great gun though.

Those who believe Glock are the most superior firearm are fanboys or fanatics for that brand. Part of what keeps me on THR is there aren't too many of those here, or at least they are too busy in the corner with Glock whispering "precious" to it. I have fired nearly every full size and subcompact model Glock has made, and was not that impressed compared to Sig, HK, Walther or other brands. As such I do not own any Glocks and I don't feel I am missing out on anything.

What complicates these discussions is that many guys seem to view their personal handguns as extensions of their manhood -- and criticism of their chosen weapon is viewed as an attack on something even more precious...

Read "Glock: The Rise of America's Gun" it enplanes the rise of the Glock.

I think glocks are awesome......And I also think S&W M&P,Ruger,XD's,and alot of other brands are pretty awesome too.I'm sure everyone will defend their own gun purchases but I don't persoanlly care if they don't like my gun selection.I'm not sure why you would care? BTW: I see your new here,Welcome to THR!

My friend, until you get 3 Rugers (22 semi, 357 DA, and 45 LC SA) your journey is not complete

Yup. That Glock "kool aid" is some powerful stuff. I remember the first time I shot one back in the 80s. That was the last time I shot one. I have owned staple guns with better triggers on them.

A person that can shoot impresses me...no matter the brand name of his/her gun. Some people truly amaze me.

However, a gun snob turns me off...no matter the brand name on their gun.

A friend gave me my first two Glocks.

The first a G17. Can't think of a thing I liked about it. What a brick. (that's actually what my friend calls his Glocks, "Bricks". :)
I gave it back.

The friend later gave me a G26. I really tried to like the gun since I returned the first one.
I couldn't find anything likeable about the gun. Just a smaller brick.
I gave it back.

Later I borrowed the G26 to let a new shooter try it. New shooters hear about Glocks, so I let them shoot one. Generally they don't like the thing.

This time when I tried to return the G26 my friend said,
"Don't you even think about bringing that thing back in my house".

So I have a G26.

Later a lady friend was going to trade her G19 in on a 20 ga shotgun. She bought the gun, then didn't like it. She would only get about $250 in trade. To save her too big a loss I bought the G19 for $400. I leave it in the car 24/7 for a car gun.

Later I bought a like new G33 for $350. I didn't want the gun but the man needed money.
I'm not crazy about the gun but I like the 357 SIG round.

A couple weeks ago I bought a G42....... just because.
To my surprise I like the gun. The best thing I can say about it is, it's not like a Glock/brick.

..can anyone honestly tell me what I am over looking,if I am overlooking anything at all. Thanks
Just get what you like and want. What others say means not a thing.
There's a lot of good guns out there.

There are other guns just as good as a Glock but what I like doesn't mean anyone else will like it and who cares? I shot a Glock once and that's all I needed to never shoot one again but I love my XD's.

I will say that one of the things about Glock is before M&P, XD, FNS, etc...the only option for this type of pistol was Glock. He might not have technically invented much, but the combination of technologies and procedures Glock used revolutionized the handgun industry. None of the other handguns mentioned have done that. While I think some offer a bit more than Glock (and lately Glock has been behind the times on offering certain features), I think at most they stood on the shoulders of Glock, whereas Glock had to stand up all on its own.

So, in the 1980s, Glock was the only option for a pistol of its type. It was the best by simply being in a class of its own. Now it's just a part of the pack.

I think that because they were first and established the reputation and market share that they have Glock has a naturally larger fanbase, so you hear about them more often, and you may notice more Glock "fanboys" than you do "fanboys" for other guns.

So to sum it up, I think it's their popularity plus the "we were first" mentality that has you noticing this type of behavior more among Glock owners than anyone else.

It's a common attitude that people of limited experience have.

Revolver people swear that semi-auto's are inferior.

Semi-auto people swear that revolvers are inferior.

And then there are the make and model factions in each of those 2 camps.

Glock has a lot going for it, but it is very far from the best on the market. It is cheap, reliable, and has a lot of spares and aftermarket accessories on the market. Much like Toyota Corolla.

I was slow to accept Glocks. The grip angle and plastic put me off. I finally ran across a used one cheap enough that I knew I could get all of my money back if I didn't like it so I bit the bullet. There is a learning curve to adjust if used to other guns, but after a couple boxes of ammo I found I shoot them just as well as most out of the box 1911's and better than most anything else. A 1911 that has been worked over can be more accurate, but not many factory guns.

The grip angle is often criticized by those used to a straighter grip, but it is really the Glocks biggest advantage. It helps keep the bore lower and significantly reduces muzzle flip and recoil. The large frame 45's and 10mm can be too large for those with small hands, but if you can wrap your hands around one they are the softest shooting guns in their calibers.

Given reasonable care all of the common guns are probably equally reliable, but I've seen enough to convince me that a Glock will take more abuse and still work than anything ever made.

To me the greatest appeal is that I have absolutely no sentimental feelings attachment to any of them. I really like all of my 1911's, Sigs, Rugers and Smiths much more. But I'd be concerned about any speck of rust and would be upset if they were ever stolen or lost in a fire etc. The Glocks are like a hammer I throw in the toolbox. Forget about it, just pick it up and use it when needed. If it gets stolen, rusted or lost they are cheap enough and another exactly like it can easily be found.

I think Walt Sherrill stated it well. I have 2 Glocks and their simplicity of design and reliability is a big plus for them. The fact that many gun makers have copied this design is a testament to many as being a superior gun design. I am not one of them because I have SIG guns and 1911's that are just as reliable even though they have more parts. Yes, I agree the Glock type of design is easy to manufacture and less expensive but I enjoy shooting my SIG, H&K and 1911''s much more because they are more accurate in my hands.

You are overlooking their Perfection.

You'll come around someday.

:)

The Glocks tend to be right accurate.

But then, most other decent guns are accurate to. (don' know why I wrote XDX instead of XDS :) )

The preference for Glocks is exactly the same as being a Ford guy or a Chevy guy. It make them feel that they havepicked the best, and are therefore smarter than everyone else. This is usually easily debateable; just not with them.

Emphasis added. Well said. :)
