Michigan - Stand your ground under assault

Good luck guys.
I always say this but it bears repeating;
Spread the word at your local gun shops, shooting ranges, work, facebook if you use it, local online forums, etc.

I like to cut up little cards with instructions on how to contact your reps and what you should ask them to do (support LD-1260, oppose LD-940, etc.) and put a stack at my local gun shop and pass them out to friends.

Another small group of inner city folks who want to protect the criminals. I see this going nowhere. Yet as always, I will remain diligent and do my duty to protect the constitution.

Given how often the remaining citizens of Detroit have had to protect themselves with guns of late, I would suspect that even the leftward-leaning voters there might get out en masse ... Detroiters may continue to elect corrupt criminals such as Kwame Kilpatrick to office, but they love their guns and thoroughly understand the need to protect hearth and home in the Motor City. If you don't believe this, you don't get Detroit.

Here is one silver lining. Detroit's Police Chief James Craig is pro-gun !

“There’s a number of [Concealed Pistol License (CPL)] holders running around the city of Detroit. I think it acts as a deterrent. Good Americans with CPLs translates into crime reduction. I learned that real quick in the state of Maine.”

Chief Craig was also Police Chief of Cincinnati (just across the river from here). I thought he did a good job over there as well. Perhaps the police chief needs to talk to the "Detroit National Action Network" and set them straight. Here are some more interesting items from that article.

"In just one week in the city of Detroit, there were three armed citizen self defense shootings, which resulted in three arrests, no physical injuries to the victims, and the deaths of two very violent and dangerous predators.

In all, it has been a great week for “Good Americans With Guns.” In addition, Chief Craig will continue to beat the drum for an armed local citizenry. With any luck, more Detroit residents will heed the call and become legally armed in Detroit."

Now if we can only get more pro-gun Police Chiefs to go on record as Chief Craig did, it would be a very good thing.

.

I don't see it gaining any traction, but despite that, we still can't afford to let down our guard.
The DPD chief seems like he understands the situation he's got in his city, and that helps. All too often we see high ranking cops supporting gun control efforts, like the MSP chief not supporting the elimination of the handgun registry.

This isn't a "left" attack on SYG, it is a particular group capitalizing on this one shooting and standing on the drunk woman's corpse to get attention. The homeowner shot the woman in the face with a shotgun through his screen door while she was "banging on his door" at 04:30 so there should be no SYG issue. As such this group is using her death to get attention crying SYG as the "cause" of the death. Make no mistake, though, they can capture the attention of the press and politicians and the elected officials in Michigan need to hear from everyone supporting citizens not having to retreat or withdraw in the face of a threat to themselves and their loved ones.

I'm going to show my ignorance here (and I'm a bit embarrassed as well), but from what I can gather, this group is using Michigan's petition initiative in order to get something on the ballot for the next general election. While contacting your local legislative representative to voice your opinions and concerns is always a good thing, how would that help in this case? It's not the legislators that crafted this garbage up, and (assuming their petition is successful to get something on a ballot) it would be up to the general voting public to determine its outcome. no?

It does look upon further information that they are trying to get a proposal on the Nov. ballot for the people to choose. I'm not quite sure how that works, but I do assume even if the proposal passes, it'll need some form of legalese written by the state government. There has to be some level of legislative involvement, there was when GR passed their proposal to decriminalize marijuana. I'm just not up to speed on the details.

Either way, be it a push from a sector of the population, or a push from a sector of the government, we still need to push back to preserve our right to self defense.

I find it simply astonishing that any adult would promote forcing people to FLEE from danger, rather than defend themselves from it. It's a concept that seems so antithetical to what America was founded on....?

Just say it gets on the ballot, also, it gets passed, no more stand your ground?

Woman, home alone, shoots intruder dead as a brick!

Did not run away, flee!

In court, jury will convict? Not a dogs chance, nothing changed.

Old Guy, its not about home defense, but rather out in the streets defense. The argument they like to use is the Zimmerman/ Martin case, where they point out that Zimmerman could have left the scene (while his head was being pounded into the curb) instead of shooting Martin. They get flustered when anyone brings up the point that Treyvon could have fled the area just as easily.

So no, a woman home alone that shoots an intruder is not going to trial using a stand your round defense, but the woman who shoots an assailant in a parking garage after working late is another story.

I renewed my CPL yesterday
Well worth the $105 it cost
It kept me out of trouble a number of times.
Stand your ground on the ballot will continue---many people like it

The Zimmerman/Martin case was not a Stand Your Ground case. Zimmerman claimed self defense. The Judge simply allowed SYG to be considered, that's all.

The trouble is that some people with ulterior motives continue to defiantly toss the Zimmerman/Martin case into the faces of the antis as a SYG win. In turn the anti-gun folks, who hate SYG and will do whatever they can to kill it because it further disproves their belief that all citizens should rely on the government 100% for their safety, keep telling the African American community that: "see......these people don't care a rat's butt about you and will use SYG to kill your people".

Among other things this would get rid of it the right to use deadly force to resist a car jacking. As you would have to run away from the car jacker rather than resist.

The Zimmerman/Martin case was not a Stand Your Ground case.
You're right, it wasn't. I know it, you know it, but those who oppose SYG laws don't, and continue to bring it up as a reason why SYG laws must be repealed. Its not as if they are looking at things while being burdened with facts and logic. They don't want to see their kids and grandkids in prison or the morgue, but aren't willing to make a lifestyle change to keep them out. Change the laws that send them to the clink (or the freezer), but not the mentality. We're not dealing with logical opponents.
