NY compliant Rifle

Looks like an ergonomic disaster...

I'm also surprised this isn't considered a 'thumbhole' stock, since it's basically achieving the same effect- I guess because it's not attached to the piece covering the buffer tube?

While I'm glad that someone's figured out an option for people trying to follow the law to the letter, I certainly won't be lining up to buy one of these.

More options. Exile Machine has consulted with the NY State Police via attorney's in NY, and they have some NY SAFE act compliant configurations you can do yourself using their Hammerhead stock adapter. The page lists in detail what's needed to be SAFE act compliant. Here are their images:

If you have the disposable income to spare I hope you'll reconsider. The more SAFE act compliant rifles that are in the hands of New Yorkers helps you guys even more in legal challenges. It lets you say that these are rifles in common use, and the SAFE act only bans cosmetic features, while not changing the rifle's functionality one bit.

How times change, didn't thumbhole stocks used to make evil rifles nice
NY politicians are at war with ergonomics. Anything that makes the rifle comfortable to hold must be banned. No doubt soon anything that allows you to hold the rifle at all will be banned.

That is an excellent point, for sure.

I would argue though, that you are altering the rifle's functionality with one of these setups. These configurations seem to cripple your ability to hold the rifle properly.

For someone like me who didn't own an AR before the ban, it makes no sense (in my opinion) to go out and buy one new with this setup.

But, yes, that is an extremely valid point I had not considered. Unfortunately, NY politicians do not seem to care that AR-pattern rifles are extremely common sporting rifles.

Same kind of BS CA went through. Work arounds are just that, either use them or do without.

Since the "pro" 2nd amendment NY state police helped write the law and the law is for them which a Democrat senator said on the NY assembly floor I guess they should have this info

Or better yet, move to a free state
Suppose your own state had highly restrictive laws... would you just up and move? Probably not. And even if you would, most other people have families or work in the states they reside in... even the ones with less-than-ideal rules.

Snowblind,
believe me, brother, I get that some folks are trapped. Can about promise after this year's election, Pennsylvania will have a Cuomo wannabe as Gov and me and mine are fixin to move to Texas

"NY politicians are at war with ergonomics. Anything that makes the rifle comfortable to hold must be banned. No doubt soon anything that allows you to hold the rifle at all will be banned."

In the words of Henry Ford, "anything, so long as it's black" (which this new option still is, I notice). I do think a class-action shoot alleging the law specifically led to carpal tunnel syndrome among shooters would be fan-freaking-tastic :D

From a practical standpoint? Get a piston AR with the spring up front you'd be able to find a way to accommodate a comfortable straight stock. So long as that buffer tube is there, you're SOL without a pistol grip. That hammerhead thing reminds me of the original FG42 grip; neither looks comfortable or practical.

I'm done telling NYers to move, they will do what they want, regardless, and it just makes them complain. Personally, I'd prefer they and (everyone else) either a) move out if you truly feel you have no voice and can't effect change, or b) stay and be darn sure you're supplying money and manpower to the effort before complaining how bad things are. If it was widely known the vast majority of NY gunowners were doing one of those two things, we'd have nothing but admiration. Yes, people in Free states have it easier and don't need to fight so hard, but that's why you NYers are working to make yours a Free state in the first place.

Is there any reason that the MG-emplacement style grips would count as a 'pistol grip' in the eyes of the law? I'm referring to the kits like this:

Don't need a grip or a stock for that setup. I figure you could throw a sling on it Rambo-style and shoot from the hip. The scary thing is, that would probably be legal. But no, a pistol grip? Shame on you.

I'm sure that every gun owner in NY wants to move. Unfortunately, not everyone is in the same position as you are to pick up their lives and leave their jobs and families behind.

I'm so sick and tired of everyone on the forums telling New Yorkers to move. I like the idea of staying here and fighting. I'm not one to just run away from bullies.

Its unrealistic to expect people to move away from their family, convince a spouse to move, leave jobs, friends, kids schools, their home town etc...solely due to restrictive gun laws. If stupid gun laws got passed here I'd have to live with them. When stupid laws get passed, work arounds are not far behind.

Get one of these. It was desined by a NYS Trooper and brought down to Albany to get a verbal OK. So far its 100% leagle and less then 25.00 bucks.

As far as all the guys saying just move and run away. <deleted> . Apparently you don't have one that you want to fight for, where you and your family have lived for generations and have alot invested in with jobs, property, friends ect. <deleted> Show me where you ran from because of a gun law and where you settled.

I like the one with the shoulder thing that goes up WAY better. I am sure it costs WAY more.

I don't have an AR and until the SAFE Act, I didn't want one. But this guy is a hero. Way to stick it to the clowns in Albany! The "cosmetic features" clause was a transparent attempt to ban detachable magazine semi-auto rifles pure and simple. Bloombergs lawyers knew they couldn't ban a class of firearms so this was their "solution". The former State Cop that came up with this mod is a hero for showing everyone what fools the State Assembly are and demonstrating the utter ineffectuality of the Law to achieve either its stated purpose or its true intent. Far from aiding and abetting compliance with a vile and corrupt law, this undermines the law and serves to further illustrate the pettiness and stupidity of our incompetent, corrupt lawmakers.
