I just picked up some 40grain v-max

1-9 is the fastest I have and they shoot the 40 grainers great. I use 28.5 grains of BL-C2. I have plenty of 335 but the c2 just worked better for me the day I was working up a load. I bet you'll be fine.
 
Good to here. We just found out that from the roof top the fuzzy little bunnies that over run our yard are quit visible.
 
I have shot 35 grain nosler bt varmints with 24.3 gr h4895 out of my 1/8 and they group just fine. I say give it a shot!
 
Any reason why the C.O.L. Is so short on these?

The C.O.L. That Hornady lists leaves thems plenty short. Any reason not to seat them at Magazine depth?

The bullets themselves are short. If you want to seat them longer, you might want to check how much neck engagement you'll still have.

If you account for the short boat tail, then bullet/case engagement is about .17 at the recommended COL of 2.20.

I load them at 2.280 for my bolt guns. Not much in the case but they sure group good! That is the longest COL I've seen printed.
 
Shooting them in an AR-15, I would seat them at the shorter 2.20" OAL to insure you have good case neck tension for feeding.

They would barely be stuck in the case at 2.280", which might be fine in a bolt-action.
Not so fine in a semi-auto.

rc that is kinda what I was wondering about. I would imagin most people loading for best accuracy in a bolt gun would load just of the lands or as long as they realistically could.
But where I am loading for an AR I wonder how well they will handle the loading with minimal neck tension.
 
I have used them in AR's and they worked fine. I had to load pretty warm to get 100% reliability. Dont remember the length without looking.
 
Not too bad after all. Note shows 26.6gr of H335. It must have been the work up loads were sometimes not ejecting all the time. 26.6 isnt (shouldnt be) anything to worry about. It was 2010 when I loaded and shot them.
 
Hey thanks. My Hornady book as you probably know max's out at 25.4. If I don't find any thing in that range, I will keep working up to Hidgdon's max and see what I get.
 
Well it would seem that 40 grain bullets do well for my AR. I found two loads that give sub MOA performance.

Should be fun to get out and murder some bunnies now.
