Need affordable .22 air gun

I recently picked up a Crosman Nitro Venom to deal with an infestation of squirrels at my girlfriend's house, but I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

Pyramydair is a great outfit and I have dealt with them before, but you can generally find the same item a bit cheaper if you shop around -- or wait for a sale.

I've read a lot of positive stuff about break-barrels that use a nitro piston rather than a spring. The scope and rings are junk, and I've already tossed them. I've got a BSA and some Weaver rings ready to go on it. (I know that BSA doesn't have the greatest rep, but believe me, the scope it came with makes the BSA look like a Leupold ...) I'm also planning to eventually do a trigger upgrade to one of these:

I should be breaking it out in a week or two when my work schedule lightens up. I'll report back.

I installed a laser on the barrel long ago for night shooting possum duty. It is easy to shoot well, but making it ready if you don't already have CO2 installed takes a bit of time. The quickest way is to have a CO2 cartridge in the gun, but not pierced. Then you crank down the cartridge retainer, "dry fire" a shot to get the CO2 flowing into the gun, then load up and fire.

This one is quicker to get ready for the first shot than the CO2 job. Break it open, load a pellet, and fire. It is more powerful than the CO2 job, too.

Both were less than $150.00.

Those work great. I currently have one on my Benjamin and I gifted one to a friend for his Benjamin. He like his so much, he gifted another one to his son for his air rifle.

Airgun Depot has great deals too, especially on referbs.
"If" you get a Crosman or similar gun that uses the GRT trigger the others mentioned, keep in mind it's something like $33. You can mod the existing trigger to work as well if you want to save that $. You don't have to do anything actually, it's just that most people complain about the trigger...
You can also tune the guns to get more power, and if needed for large possum I'd probably want all the power I could get.

What did you mean by "perfect seal"?

Another thought might be quiet 22LR ammo, that is if you have a 22LR already.

If you don't mind a little pumping, how about a Benjamin 392? You don't have the recoil issues like you do with spring guns.

Buy a "used" Diana or RWS .22 rifle.
These rifles last for generations with care!
If you have the money, look into a HW 30 in .22 cal.
Prices are usuqlly reasonable.
