I dont know if I was watching a rerun or what but when that dude lit his gunpowder on fire to check if it was ok I nearly cried. He coulda got 50 bucks for that on gunbroker!!

You can microscope every element of a program like this, but it is TV, and the people who make tv want to sell commercials. Im sure the hours and hours of film result in mere seconds of tv time and the editors take liberties to create what they "think" will be dynamic, but you guys should know all of that. Yes Sue is way different and she has some traits id do with out, but, in the final analysis, here are some folks who have broken away from the mainstream and have carved out some kind of life for themselves in a very unforgiving environment. Fact is, from the few actual minutes you see them on screen, you dont know squat about what their lives are like, but ill venture most are envious. It is what it is. Why wax on about Sue or whom ever. It is a nice glimpse into a life so very contrary to most of ours. I look forward to each episode, but i take it for what it is, a tv show. Of all of the folks on the show i have the greatest respect for Chip and Agnes. I like their family values. In this world thats enough for me.

I do like Eric too,more of what I like AND respect in a lone hunter.

Sue, with all her quirks portrayed by the show, actually survives at one of if not the furthest occupied points in AK. She does this year round with little to no help. She must be doing something right. I do find the portrayal a bit melodramatic at times but I have to give her a lot of credit. Don't know many men who could survive as she does. Yes she does get air drops for food and fuel but still.

As with most of us here, Chip and Agnes are my favorites as well. Still love watching the real thing. Andy saying :this is how your food should come." Standing over his moose kill, Love it.

I know this season is already in the can, but am hoping that the producers give a lot of thought to making direction changes to the show going forward. My read on what I have seen so far this season and last, is that it has become redundant. As a suggestion they need to back off the "I kill what I eat" and "constantly reminding us of the short season to prepare for the long, long winter". All true but do you have to mention it almost every segment and numerous times each show?

Would love to see them give more time and attention to a few of the kids and how they see their futures. Also like the recent post about the toilet ??, suggest they focus some more attention on the "other" aspects of life below zero. I'm interested in how they keep all their machinery and such maintained. Beyond the changing of belts, I'm a boater so seeing them fire up an outboard in very cold temps makes me wonder. Also why they head out on the river by themselves with one boat and one motor. I have a breakdown here on the lake and I jump on the cell or call out on the VHF and someone comes to help.

Anyway I still enjoy the show, but am anxiously hoping for more and new content.

Good post, it is what it is, I am into this show to watch every aspect of it.
I appreciate the fact that the camera crews are out there trying to make it all come together. Must be quite challenging for a crew of people that goes from the lower 48, into those wild and unforgiving destinations.
I have a great deal of respect for all of the people being interviewed in the program, YUP, even Sue, She is what She is and She must be doing something right, She is still there, living the life She wants to live and not having to be dictated to by a time clock.
Envious ??? Maybe I am, just a little, to sometimes quite a bit, but, when opportunity knocks, You better answer because some day, a person becomes to old and too settled where they are to want to have to make a move.
To the younger ones in this forum, if this lifestyle is Your dream, You better go for it now because someday it will be too late.
OH, I could move there all right, but, I am too emotionally attached to the piece of property that I was raised and grew up on, so, I will continue to watch the shows, for what they are, and know that some things have been edited out to make room for commercials and I will also contineu to make My journeys over to My sons west of Wasilla and enjoy the state as much as I can while I am still able to do so.

Guess the directors know that all [ ? ] of their audience are NOT in the least gun saavy,so they show Eric shooting all 3 game [ he missed the wolf ] with an AR platform rifle = THEN he goes out to retrieve the critter he shot [ 2 fox ] with a Ruger 10/22 ??.

AND then he states he shot them with a .22 rifle,if that is nitpicking then PLEASE give me the nitpicking crown !:banghead:.

I call it very bad editing AND stupid is as stupid does.

Sue ---- never mind it would take too long,BUT gotta comment on her next show where she is saying she has a Louisville slugger in case of bear attack ------- W T F ,she has almost as many guns as a small nation ?.

And the tears at the end ,done for the cameraman that is still there = SUE,YOU WERE NOT ALONE.

I ponder if that cameraman is not already 'friendly' with her,ya know --- alone in the "total wilderness" with the only women [ barely that ] for a thousand miles ----- I'm just sayin s'all

The guy lighting the powder to see if it was dry needs to reassess his safety procedures. He lights the powder close to his powder measure which is maybe 3/4 full with the top off. He wears a hard hat and goggles when felling trees but doesn't seem to give too much thought to several ounces of powder potentially flaring up in his face. If that happened it would have been a good how not to do something.

Watched it tonite and it was interesting how Agnes and her daughter ambushed the caribou crossing the river using 22s. Some may think this not sporting but its what they need to do to eat.

Chip has made it clear, they don't hunt for sport. They hunt to survive. Caribou is how they survive. Same with fish, beaver, and anything else the take during the year. I wish most hunters, me included, used what they took like the Hailstones. Most of us just don't have the education to do it.

Ah, and then Eric's rifle [an AR] froze up. Hmm, how many times have we heard that semi- autos and specifically the AR is not reliable in subzero temps. Yet like the previous poster mentioned, the producers just love to show the cast using them for everything even when we end up hearing that they used a bolt action or 22 rather than that evil black rifle that America has learned to love.

Sorry I had to rant. Just wish there was some way to give feedback directly to the show or producers. This has gotten way out of control. Someone at the cutting table is making these decisions and maybe that someone needs to go back to Desperate Housewifes.

My wife follows Sue on her facebook page, and it really shows a differant side to Sue. The editors have showed her as a hard ass, which really isn't the way she is. She gives you an everyday view of what she does and what is going on in her world. Way differant than the editors put out.

Whatever. Good TV bar the continuity issues. The family that were caribou hunting are awesome. The little girl needs to work on her gun mount but I giggled hearing her Mom telling her she'd "get scolded" for not keeping the muzzle down range. What a cool Mom!

I like the show and I like the fact that they show different folks doing their survival in different ways.

Last night's episode Sue ordered 4,000 gallon of fuel to tie her over the winter. I remembered Chip (Caribou) said on the show that gas costs $8/ gallon, so the 4,000 gallons would cost Sue $32,000!

I would like to know how much does Sue charge for her summer hunting lodge business to justify what she spends on fuel, food & other things. I can't imagine many people go to that remote places or artic and pay top dollars for a bed & breakfast. Her compund looks big but I have no idea what they use them for. I have not seen an episode with guests on her compound.

Anybody wish to guess as to Andy's moose rifle caliber? It looks short and fat like it is maybe one of the short magnums- maybe 30 caliber. I couldn't believe how he "tested" the powder to make sure it was dry. He said he could load the moose loads for $1.50 each.Whatever the load was it dropped the moose DRT in the swamp or wherever it was.It is interesting how much hunting has been in the 1st four episodes of LBZ. It is my only TV show that I watch live. This new season is a winner so far to me.

Say what you want about Andy, he's high strung, likes to do things his way...

But everytime he's hunted or had to shoot a bear he's come back with meat. He feeds his dogs better then some adults (I use that term loosely) feed their kids, he makes it clear the dogs work for him, take care of him and Kate, let him know if something is happening around the house...

Yeah he yells a lot but I've known plenty of people that do but that's the way they've always been. As far as we know he treats his wife and dogs very well. How couples get along is no ones business unless you know for sure something else is happening. I think he's calmed down more this season as he has had more to keep busy with. I can see how people would go nuts with cabin fever there and you better like the people your with or there will be a lot of arguing going on.

Sue stated she 'needed' a total of 4 THOUSAND gallons of fuel to not freeze.

That is a HUGE amount,but she does sell it for AVGAS = wonder what SHE sells it for ????.

And just remember that all the other familys and survivors on that show = together do not use half that amount to "survive" their winters.

Looked at her site,NOT IN THE LEAST BIT does she offer a user friendly place to hunt,as I see it.

Your on your own to bring or find just about EVERYTHING,missing one item = OUCH.

Funny ,but all those outbuildings are for ????.

It seems that everytime I set or lie down to watch the show I fall asleep and miss it. :banghead: If I stand still for too long I will fall asleep on Mine feets too.

Am I missing something here or do the people in the arctic use less gun than we would. I think I saw sue shooting at a bear with a .223. I know she has bigger calibers available and wonder if it is a case of poor production or similar.

Was a 308. Still smaller than I would choose on a brown bear but it got the job done. The browns are a bit smaller on the north slope than n southern AK.

An AR10, .308 caliber, I seen Her Boooolits when She was loading, or had the magazine out, I do`nt remember.

Saw too many things I did NOT like,so wont mention that stuff [ angers the fan club here ] but it does involve shooting game :banghead:.

But did really enjoy the newbie that found that really cold is ------ REALLY COLD.

He will learn in a much safer environ than if he tried solo.
