A pair of Steve Rick knives

I bought these knives almost three years ago from Steve Rick while spending a few nights at the St.James Hotel in Cimarron, NM. I ate dinner every night at the bar and got to talk with Steve most nights. He would bring in some really nice pieces, and on my last night, sunburned, fed and full of beer, I decided that these two would accompany me to AR. Perhaps I paid too much, but I have great memories of my time in Cimarron and the St.James Hotel.

Wise words indeed .... and thanks to all for the positive comments. Buying the knives was the easy part. Steve made the sheaths too. On reflection, I don't think I paid enough for these knives given the amount of work involved and the knowledge and skill required. In fact, I'm ashamed to say that the mass produced, soon to be in a landfill, soulless piece of electronic garbage I'm using right now ( Samsung Galaxy Note) cost more than both knives. What a twisted world we live in.

So how about use? A coworker recommended not using them for hunting because the sheaths would get nasty real quick due to fat and blood from deer and elk. Do knives like these belong on the mantelpiece?

Hmmm ... they don't have much of an edge on them at present. I was planning to sharpen them but perhaps that's a bad idea too. I have many knives but these are my first custom ones. If they're too nice to use I'll happily display them on a shelf at the house.

oldbear, I came to the realization that $450 for the pair was cheap given the skill, time and longevity involved.... my apologies to Steve.
