Any Glock 19 owners (or similar sized) shot a Glock 42 yet? Anyone own one / carry one for any length of time now who cares to share their experiences? Picky on ammo? Accuracy compared to a G19?

Held one today for the first time. After I got over "awwww it's so CUUUUTE" phase.... I realized it pointed just like my other Glocks. Just felt miniscule in my hands, but not awkward like most little pistols feel.

I haven't bought a "pocket pistol" yet but I'm getting dang tired of strapping on the full size guns to go for a jog or quick trip to the store. Would like something I can just slide in my pocket (in a pocket holster) and GO without all the hullabaloo about finding my belt, getting the holster arranged, etc.

(Remember please, looking specifically for long time Glock concealed carriers who have also now carried the Glock 42 for a while... not subjective "I heard this from a buddy" type reports.)

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can share!

Just bought the 42 yesterday. I only had about 15 rounds of .380. I was quite disappointed that it hit 6 inches to the left at 7 yards on very slow purposeful shooting. My LCP made ragged holes at 7 yards. OK, OK, i didn't clean it and 15 rounds isn't enough to make a judgement. I bought another 50 rounds of Blzer 95gr and will testi tout again this weekend. So we will see. I really hope it was me or at leat the ammo that was the problem.

well, it's not like Glock to put sights on crooked. Every one I've owned has been "dead on out of the tupperware."

Suppose it could happen though. CZ75 I bought printed 9" left at 15 yards out of the box.

I carry a g27 (not a 19, but I'll still chime in). I was deciding on a new 380 for pocket carry as my lcp just was not accurate enough in my hands. I shot the 42 pretty extensively as it was in the final running. What ultimately steered me away from the 42 was the fact that it was too big for my pockets.

Its a shame because I shot it as well as any 380 I have tried. I ended up with a sig 238 which was much smaller and 'pocketable' and still had pretty good accuracy.

I have and use a g19 and a g42.

The 19 is... Well... A 19

My take on the 42. Love it. It's kind of odd really. It feels like every other Glock but it is so tiny. It's not tiny enough for a true pocket carry IMO but it is small enough to easily have about.

Not only is the 42 the most accurate 380 I've Ever fired. It's the most accurate CF semi auto I've ever fired. I kid you not. It's that good. Recoil impulse is next to nothing. This ant no P3AT.

Now for the bad; I've had every kind of failure possible with it. Mostly it's the slide not staying open on the last round. TBH I've never actually used quality ammo in the gun either. Tula steel seems under powered. The brass offering has been better. My Reloads (1st try) had a few FTEject but I think it prefers hotter ammo. With that, I think the recoil spring is possibly too stiff for off the shelf 380 ammo.... Or my feeble attempt at reloading for it to this point. It does appear to be ammo sensitive.

Holsters of most any type are few and far between so I've made do up till now with an over sized IWB Galco. Not the best choice but the only option I have had to date. Even so, it's quite liberating compared to a g19... Or a Shield for that matter. With that said, It's still more of a maybe carry for me until I sort out the ammo and reliability.

I have around 200 rounds through my G42 so far, so it is still in the proveing stage before I carry it. I have noticed that it is easier to twist in my hand, which causes it to shoot to the left. I had to up the powder charge from what I ran in my p3at in order to get it to cycle 100%. It likes a strong high grip and a weak low grip will cause it to misfeed. I dont have a G19 to compare it to, but I have a G23. Some have said that it is too big, but I think that it is sized just right. It is big enough that you can spend some time at the range with it, and it is small enough to conceal.

I don't have a G19 - I have a G26 and a G42 that we bought for my Wife. We had some initial feed/eject issues with the G42 in her hands. I cautioned her to stop holding the gun like it was "a new gun" or fragile/breakable and her problems ceased instantly. Proper grip and technique seems pretty important to getting the most out of the G42 and I suspect many folks issues with it and some ammo comes from grip/handling issues that may not be easy to spot or apparent.

We now have about 1K round thru the G42 mostly of *hot* hand loads without a failure. We have also shot Winchester Train and Defend (both kinds) some Remington, some Fiocchi, and older Winchester white box thru it without problems. The G42 is soft recoiling and hard hitting. Surprisingly accurate and small enough to carry all the time. My hand loads are pushing a 100 gr. flat nose bullet at over 1050fps yet the littlest Glock remains accurate, fast and reliable. It is sensitive to improper grip and apparently some folks have had issues with premature slide locking open with rounds still in the magazine...it is also ammunition sensitive as many small guns/.380s can be. Folks with large, meaty hands will not like the G42 as riding the slide with a thumb or contacting the slide lock with thumbs forward grip is highly likely with larger handed folks.

It's a Glock. Not fancy, just functional to the point of being rude, crude, and ugly. Compared to my G26 (which I can pocket carry 'cause I have big pockets) it's a cinch to have with you all the time. It is not a teeny tiny little wrist breaker like we found the LCP and S&W Bodyguard to be...the low bore axis and general Glockiness makes it a soft shooting/fast follow up gun. Thin and small enough to be on yer person without making it a chore and accurate, and powerful enough to make a decent SD pistol. I think the G42 is the ultimate Glock pistol for Everyday Joe who wants/needs a CCL pistol but is not a "Glock-O-Phile" or handgun aficionado. It's simple and effective and my Wife feels confident with hers to the point of letting people borrow it at the range and get used to it - especially smaller structured folks who have had problems concealing or mastering other platforms. She's shot a lot of guns and can have any she wants and she has chosen the G42 as her hands down favorite CCL pistol. She truly feels that without her G42 she'd be carrying something less than perfect for her needs. We highly recommend the G42 for folks who are looking for a subcompact size .380 for CCL.

At 5.94" long and 4.13" tall - it is not a pocket pistol IMO, although Glock owners lead all gun owners in the category of stuffing an over-sized pistol into a pocket and declaring it a pocket gun.

I have had multiple 19s. Several other Glocks. The 42 is special. It feels great in my hand. Fantastic. My very first shot, UMC 95 grain, was dead center the bullseye. What a great start! I've shot less than a hundred rounds, but everything has been perfect. Mine has a May manufacture date. I pocket carry it in my jeans, but it's too large for my dress pants. I like it well enough that I've bought 400 rounds of Fiocchi and 500 once fired cases, for reloading. I intend to shoot it a lot.

I poo-pooed the G42 at first. Why was Glock stupid enough to produce it in .380? Boy was I wrong. If you've had a hard time finding .380 ammo, I predict that it will get even worse. As more and more skeptics handle and shoot the G42, Glock is going to sell even more and more of them.

I have a 19, 26, 36, and a 42. The 26 and 42 are my regular carry Glocks, along with a s&w642. I had several FTF with the 42 when I first got it, but after a brief break in, it has been completely reliable. I carry mine in a remora iwb and it is fabulous! As for pocket carry, I think it is fine, IF you have big enough pockets. It doesn't work in pockets for me, though.

I just recently picked up my G42 from Gunbroker. My collection includes several Glock models (19,23,21,20,26,27). Finally have found a .380 that I am comfortable with. Have tried Bersa, Sig, and a few others. The G42 is light enough to be pocket carried without feeling like carrying a brick. I only have about 25 rds through but have not had any failures or misfeeds. So far I would recommend the G42 to anyone.

I have a bunch of 380 pistols and the G42 and P238 are by far the best of all of them.

Initially testing the G42 with ten different brands of ammo I had only one failure to feed on the second magazine I shot, but have had perfect function since.

I highly recommend it.

I owned .380's back in the day and had the same idea when the G42 was announced....my initial impression was that we did not need a .380 in the house and my Wife was centered on her Ruger LCR and a Colt 1903 in .32 for carry guns. Then we shot a G42 that belonged to the range officer/owner at our local range/gun store. And *WOW!* my Wife grinned ear to ear and we put our name on a list for one of the ten they had coming.

Took a while to get it but it was love from day one. We did buy after market mag pinkie extensions and that makes the gun all the sweeter.

I have heard the "it's too big" complaint from many but in the hand it simply *is* a pocket pistol and is not all that much bigger where it counts than the LCP. It is not a teeny tiny hide out pistol but is easily concealed/carried if you dress for it and are serious about adapting to a concealed carry gun and not insistent upon the gun conforming to the user. It is no bigger than our Colt 1903 which has been touted as a "pocket pistol" for 100 years. I think folks now consider a pocket pistol too big unless it is a toy. The G42 is not tiny but a nice compromise size with exceptional functionality.

We shot 'em all...no really. We shot every pistol within the realm of reality via rental, borrowed, or purchased to find a gun my Wife felt comfortable with and could conceal. She's 5' and about 120 now and she hides a G42 just fine in everything from dresses to shorts and jeans. She has to dress for it but that goes with CCL in our world.

I own several Glocks, G19, G26, G30sf, G42

The G42 has become my EDC pistol. I pocket carry the gun in a Remora holster. The G42's recoil is very mild for such a small gun. I shoot the G42 accurately, just not as accurately as the G19. My G42 has performed flawlessly, eats all ammo without problems, and I have experienced no FTF or FTE. The gun has ~300 rounds through it.

Got my 42 about 3 weeks ago and only got it to the range once. Put about 70-75 rounds through it. When I did my part it was accurate and fired like any other Glock.

But, as noted above, the very thin grip seems to make it much easier for the gun to shift in the hand, in my case usually to the left. The double stack nines, being more hand filling, don't have this problem.

I haven't actually carried mine so can't give any real world feed back on that issue.

Great feedback so far guys, much appreciated!

The G42 is now at the top of my short list. :)

Haha - ain't that the truth.

It always cracks me up when someone calls a Glock 26 their pocket pistol.

Fast becoming a Glock Addict.

I have had 2 model 19s that were great. Didn't know if I would like the Glock trigger, but it didn't take long to get used to it. Finally got a 42 for the wife. Now we have problem. I love it. Last week I put a box of rounds thru it and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't hard to keep most rounds in a 3" bull at 25'. I will take that.

Not to be contrary or argumentative but why? I pocket carry my G26 and my Wife's G42 all the time. I carry quite a bit in cargo shorts, jacket pockets, and even in a back pocket of jeans and *can* and have carried my G26 and G42 in my jeans front pocket under un tucked Tshirt.

Just because some folks can't do it doesn't mean it can't/isn't done. Even my tiny Wife can carry her G42 in a front, back, or jacket pocket so I'm curious about the mirth and intimation that Glock and associated Glock owners are "pulling someone's leg" calling then pocket guns. Lots of folks are doing it and doing it well...

Question, how does the G42 compare in size to the Kahr CM9/PM9? And if about the same size, why not go with 9mm vs. .380?

That's easy, because I shoot the G42 better than I do the PM9.

The PM9 is the best 9mm in it's size class for me to shoot, but not nearly as easy to handle as the G42.

My experience with ultralight 9mm's is they are devilishly hard to control well enough to get fast followup shots on target. (for me, anyway.)

With the Glock 19 I can get .17-.18 second splits in a speed standard drill. CZ-75BD (not a race gun, just a standard one), .15-.16 second splits.

Ultralight 9mm's I'm MUCH slower with. Double the split, and then some.

380 ACP might not be a grizzly-thumping round, but I'd STILL rather get two of them on target accurately than a single 9mm round.

Edit to add:

The reason rapid follow up shots is important for CCW, is the concept of "one shot stops" is a myth, debunked over the years many times over. There are two ways to put a bad guy down (aside from them giving up); blood loss (which leads to lack of oxygen in the brain and unconsciousness), and central nervous system.

380 ACP and 9mm have essentially the same surface area. One penetrates slightly deeper than the other, so you might hit a core vessel that the other misses. But if you are shooting accurately center of mass, you're hitting the arterial cluster. More shots is better than one shot, because many of those vessels aren't buried too deeply. E.g. while a 380 may not reach the aorta on a big guy, there's LOTS of other vessels it *can* reach in the same vicinity which will let lose like a firehose inside the torso.

Same logic as to why I carry a 9mm vs. 45 right now; I can shoot one MUCH faster than the other (3 shots of 9mm for every 2 of 45 ACP). I'd rather put three holes in a bad guy than two.

But these ultralights, that's a whole 'nother animal. A 9mm ultralight is incredibly slow for me; slower than a 45. I can get a 2:1 ratio of 380 ACP (shot from my wife's Walther PK380) than I can an LC9, KelTec, or any of the other mini-9's I've borrowed at the range and sent rounds out of.

If the Glock 42 holds up to that, a 2:1 ratio of rounds sent downrange over a mini-9mm is a huge advantage in damage dealt to incapacitate bad guys...

Just pocket the 19. What's with the fascination these days with micro guns? Just carry a damn gun! Who cares if it prints a bit?
