Desert Eagle 44 mag thoughts

I shot a .50AE Desert Eagle and if the size and heft reduced the recoil any, I sure don't want to shoot one in a smaller gun.

Moderate recoil and good accuracy if a little finicky with some factory ammo. The current ones are built on the .50AE platform so they are pretty tame in the lesser calibres. Mine likes hot reloads.

Best DE in my opinion is still the original .357 though.

Do not own one but shot a family members DE .44 Mag and it shot well, recoil in the big DE seemed a lot milder than the same 240gr coming from a 4" S&W Mtn. gun

I have one in .44 Mag and it is accurate. Recoil is still stout, but compared to other .44 Magnums it is more manageable. The worst part about the Desert Eagle is the sheer size of it and the cost. If neither of these bothers you it will make a good range toy and possibly a hunting pistol.

As a side note, the FDE finish is certainly aftermarket.

I love shooting my buddy's - it's an accurate pistol and cuts down on the recoil very nicely. I would love one but just can't force myself to shell out that much for a somewhat limited use pistol. (hell of a carry gun, though...)

I have one on 44 & it's a great gun. Recoil is very manageable if you reload and use the right powders.

I find that blue dot under a 240gr is pretty soft shooting (relatively speaking) while still running the gun reliably.

That being said, about 50-75 rounds a session is my limit.

Seems to me that a round as big as the 44mag has a healthy dose of recoil in almost any configuration, but when you add to that a massive slide motion even in a gun that heavy your definately in for a handful. Having shot a 50AE a couple times i can say that it is pretty impressive as far as power goes.

If all your lookin for is cool points then by all means get that thing. If your looking for a big-bore handgun that is a soft shooter...you still need to keep dreaming.

I like the idea of owning a DE or 2 but my budget & upper body strength may be lacking.
A gold .50AE would be a sweet safe queen. I'm left handed so Id buy the latest version.
I'd buy a .50AE/.44 kit for shooting(maybe vehicle carry when I feel under-gunned).
I'd add Metalife or maybe Bearcoat. Just to jazz it up.

FWIW; I saw a soc media pic of a cool brace of 1911a1 long-slides painted to look like the shark teeth fighter planes of WWII. It was slick!

What's so special about the new DE? I'm left-handed and I shoot an old version of the DE with no problems. I don't have a lot of upper body strength either, but honestly I don't find the DE that much trouble to hang on to. I do agree the cost is downright depressing though.

A friend of mine had one and it was a lot of fun to shoot. Not bad in terms of felt recoil as the gas action and heavy duty size of the gun took care of that problem quite nicely. Mostly just a range toy as my friend really didn't have any other particular use for it outside of that. Worked fine with jacketed factory ammo as I believe this is per instructions in the owners manual.

That is correct. Lead cannot be used or it will clog the gas system.

Wrong house!......

I prefer the newer DEs because they have a mag release that can be converted & they slides have 1913 type rails for scopes/laser aimers/rear view mirrors.
Really, I forgot to mention the cool .50GI too. That's a big bopper!

With a Glock 21/20 kit or a Guncrafters pistol, you can get: WRONG HOUSE engraved on the muzzle ring.

PS; the big honking comp for the latest DEs is cool too. It's more expensive but it looks cool.

I don't own, but I've shot a Desert Eagle .44. It was fun. I thought the recoil was very light, I mean like a full size 1911 with light loads. But the noise and muzzle flash were definitely magnum-sized. I don't consider myself a big DE fan, but heck, it was a lot of fun.

You can get the comp fitted to any DE, I asked. Problem is, it won't fit in the case!

Here's my range toy I bought 20 or so years ago, I love shooting it . To me the recoil seems quite mild, I share the same ammo that I load for my Redhawk. 240gr JHP loaded with H110 down to 180gr bullets loaded with Blue dot. Once in a great while I get a failure to extract. It's just plain fun to rapid fire through a full magazine.

I've always wanted a DE .357 - it's one of my bucket list guns that unless I just happen to come into a bunch of money I'll probably never own one, but if I ever strike it rich I'll darn sure be getting one. That same statement applies to the BFR in 30-30 as well.

If you watched "Sledge Hammer" in the 80's...you will love the Desert Eagle

If your friends think of you as a brother to Sgt. Tackleberry of "Police Academy"...you will love the DEagle...

If your bumper sticker sez "I don't dial 911, I dial 357!" You'll love the DEagle...

They are fun, but expensive
