i ended up going to gander for the powder because it was closer. it ended up being $29.99 for a lb. overpriced as usual. Recobs sells them for $21.xx. I bought two because I had a $25 gift card. I went with w748. thanks guys.
My Gander never has any powder. I mean, not even a place on a shelf somewhere. Does yours have a good selection? (Relatively speaking of course)

i didn't know they carried powder either. I called and asked and they said they did. I couldn't find it until someone pointed it out it was hidden in a cabinet (located back in archery). Some selection on black powder and rifle powder. there were like 7 different rifle powders... their prices are usually more than what I would want to pay for. Recobs Target Shop about 30 mins away sells the same powder for about $22 a pound. Here Gander had it IN STOCK for $30. I still had a $25 gift card left from my birthday back in January. That explains how much I shop there. Their service sucks too. Like they don't want to help you unless you buy something. Good thing Cabelas is coming to town.

I stopped in to Cabelas on the way back from Denver last week. They had probably two dozen 1lb canisters each of of IMR 4064, IMR 3031 and Winchester 748. I bought the 748, since I have never tried it before.

You would think I would have bought the 3031, which I know works well for me in 30-30 and 223. I think I like working up loads more than reloading something that I already know works well for me. This makes no sense, but it is what it is :).

Not a .223 but for my bench rifle .222 have been using IMR 4198 17g pushing a speer 50gr tnt hp with good groups.

FWIW I use both H and IMR 4198 as well as Ramshot X-Terminator and Tac for my 223 loads 63 grains or lighter with excellent results. The X-Terminator gives the fastest speeds of the four listed. I tried the 3031 but chose to save it for other loads that it worked better for. The 748 is a good choice as well but for some reason I have none here at the present time.:scrutiny: Probably couldn't find a good enough deal before the panic started.

I've used H322 and Win748 in the .223 to good effect. I've used 8208 in .308 and really liked it, and it should work in .223 as well.

Yea, theyre a bit pricey. I like to throw em a bone here and there though. Sounds like I might need to ask about powder.

Cabelas had some CFE 223 so I got a lb of that to add to my inventory. made some test loads to try at the range this week of 4064, varget and cfe 223.

Ive loaded tons of .223 with w748, pretty good. Ive got some 3031 that works well with my 55 grainers as well.

I've used: AR-Comp, H335, IMR4198, IMR 8208-XBR, TAC, Varget. All of em shot fine.

I started with tac, then 8208 xbr then w748 they all worked well for me lgs seems to
get the w748 in often so I have a few pounds of that now works well and it seems that
there is a good amount of load data using 748, I have read of folks saying that w748 can
be temperature sensitive but I don't load a max charges

Have been using IMR3031 and am pleased with the results. Seems to be a popular choice for 223/556 shooters. Just my .02 cents.;)

Of the above I have only used XBR8208.
It seemed to work well for me, ther than after I worked up loads and loaded and shot a bunch I was not able to find another pound. Bummer, ordered a couple of lbs of H335.

The 8208 seemed reasonably clean and meteres well through a lee disk measure.

I also have used and liked BLC(2).
Can't say on the H335 yet but it seems popular.

HE , whats your load ? I've been trying 2460 w/o success. Shoots great @ 24.8/24.9, but will not function the action reliably on a mini 14 with those loads. I'm reluctant to go much higher as 25.2 with a 55 FMJ is about max and at that anyway accuracy is gone.

I've used a couple of the powders listed. All worked fine. I found that the rounds loaded with H322, the casing were coming out bouncing against the screen and landing on my arm scorching hot! H335 or TAC never felt that hot and these were loaded middle of the road in terms of charges.
