MY load data is listed below. YOU assume all risk if YOU decide to try these loads. The loads are by no means heavy.

I have loaded various 9mm trying to find something reasonably accurate. Have read that 9mm is tricky to load, and now I believe it. Took a few attempts to find a Unique load that cycled my pistols. Then I was crimping way too much deforming the bullet. Now...
Here is where I am with it. Unfortunately I do not have a chrony.

Pistols are Beretta model 92fs and a Ruger SR9c

Current loads:
Berry's 124 grain RN
CCI SPP
4.8 grains UNIQUE
Seated to 1.120 inch taper crimp to close the slight bell ONLY which plunks fine in both firearms
@ 50 feet table rest all rounds functioned, brass drops within a few feet of table, soft shooting. Brass looks scorched on one side.

Beretta shoots about a 10 shot 10 inch group scoring about a 65 on a 25 yard slow fire pistol bulls eye target. The Ruger is slightly better scoring several 10 shot groups at 70-75 with about 8 inch groups.

Beretta shoots about a 10 shot 10 inch group scoring about a 70 on a 25 yard slow fire pistol bulls eye target. Better scores than the Berry's but the overall groups look the same. Again the Ruger is slightly better scoring several 10 shot groups at 70-75 with about 8 inch groups. Overall MAYBE just a little better than the Berry's.

Out of frustration I bought a box of cheap Federal American Eagle ammunition.
9mm
124 grain Jacketed RN
OAL was a bit longer at 1.150
Plunk tested fine.

Guess What???

Beretta shoots about a 10 shot 3 inch group scoring about an 88 on a 25 yard slow fire pistol bulls eye target. The Ruger is slightly better with the Federal but not by much. Call them 7 inch groups scoring a 75. All rounds cycle with brass launching 10-15 feet with stronger felt recoil. Brass is fairly clean all round.

What to do? I could go longer to 1.14-1.15 on my OAL?
I could also up the charge of UNIQUE but according to LYMAN 49 I am approaching the high side already which is 5.0 grains.

Would I get better accuracy if I bought these?

Maybe the hollow base expands slightly like a skirt?

Different powder? I dont have any, well I have some HiSkor 800x.

Bump up the load a little.

I use 5.0 with the 124 Berry at 1.120" and it's fairly mild.

Alliant lists 5.8 MAX with a 124 Gold Dot seated 1.120" so you have some room to go..

rc beat me to it. Bump the load based on Alliant's own load data.

I don't use Unique, but my goto 9mm load with the faster burning Alliant Bullseye powder is 4.3 gr with 124 gr X-treme plated RN. Very accurate in my guns. I use 1.145" OAL.

Some folks will tell you that the smokey residue on the sides of the cases means you're not heavy enough on the powder charge - not expanding the brass to seal the chamber.

Bump your load a little, bump the OAL a little longer (get closer to the lands?) and get a chrono for around a $100 off Amazon. I have the Competition Electronics Digital and love the data I get back.

I guess my main point is that it is NOT the particular bullet(s) you're using, it's that your combo just needs a few minor tweaks.

Good luck!

RN and JHP OALs aren't necessarily compatible. However I doubt 1.12" is too short with berry's 124s.

They work great for me... I load them to 1.145 or so, though.

Your cases being scorched on outside is a sign the load is to light. The case isn't expanding enough to seal the chamber so gas is coming back around the case, discoloring it.
Do like RC and others said and bump up your load. If the staining doesn't go away you may have loaded your cases to many times and the brass is getting hard and doesn't want to conform to the chamber.

That doesn't mean throw them away, it just means their getting old.

As far as accuracy goes that would be crap shoot for me to try to tell you what your doing wrong without being there with you and your equipment, pistol included so I'm not going there.

All I can tell you is 124gr berry's and xtreme's both, loaded on my presses will out shoot any factory loads I found so far.

If it were me I'd jump to 5.2 gr and start playing with my OAL. I load all my 124gr Berry's and xtremes at 1.130-1.135. They seem very accurate there in all my 9mms. Unique doesn't burn that well until you get up to midrange data and higher. I always burns but gets really dirty with low pressure which tells me it's not burning as well as it can. If you want a really good, accurate 9mm load and can find some Titegroup, load your 124s at 4.0-4.1gr with an OAL at 1.135. If it passes the plunk test in your barrel you should do well with it.

I know your Ruger SR-9 will love them. Mine does.

I am quite possibly the only reloader in the United States that does not like Unique. I would try a different powder if possible.*

*the reason I said if possible I hit several gun stores and websites this week with a laundry list of eight different powders and struck out on all of them.

I've had good results with my first try on 9mm:
124gr RMR plated 2nds
3.9gr Titegroup
1.145"
Just enough crimp to take out the slight bell.

Haven't gone beyond about 10 - 15 yards with them yet but so far they are holding well. I would guess no more than 2-3" and a lot of that could be me. New handgun, new loads and not used to shooting pistol for accuracy.

Best of luck!
