I'm using the Hornady powder dispenser that came with my LNL single stage kit...so what is the trick to dumping the unused powder out without the baffle falling out at the wrong and unpredictable time and making a mess? I know you guys have a simple secret that you are wanting to share with me before I spill all of my powder. .
I use a funnel to pour the powder from the measure to the storage container. On the one or two powder measures I have where the baffle is loose, I pour carefully until the baffle slips out and is caught by the funnel. Regardless, if you pour too fast, powder will go everywhere.
My funnel is a Tupperware funnel with a 3 to 4 inch mouth and a fairly large discharge but any funnel with similar characteristics will work.
If you do not want the baffle to move when dumping the measure, spread the baffle a little so that it grips the sides of the hopper. It can be set to not move in the hopper but can be pulled out with a wire with a hook bent in the end. Another advantage to this, you can set the baffle at different heights.
Redding does this with their powder measure baffles.
The Hornady L-N-L has a dump tube option. When done reloading, raise the metering cavity, pull the metering adjustment and replace it the dump tube. Then, most of the powder will drain out the tube when it is lowered again.
The dump tube works and I have used one with my L-N-L but I found it took more time than just pouring the powder out the top of the measure,
Hope this helps.
