Cool, that's the one I usually end up going to on the rare occasions that I go to Walmart. I will have to look next time I have to stop in there on the way home from work.

Simmons in Bessemer and Bass Pro Shops in Leeds are both carrying plenty of 22LR as of a couple of weeks ago. They both had limits- can't recall Bass Pros b/c I didn't buy any, but Simmons had a limit of 5 X 100rd CCI mini-mags.

As for announcing a time, I haven't seen that before. I think there's good and bad to that. It's good for the casual buyer who can't wait outside the store every morning before it opens in hopes that there's ammo available. But at the same time, now everyone will be at the same store at the same time for the same limited ammo. No chance to get lucky and happen upon a late shipment being unloaded (which has been the only way I've been lucky enough to get .22 ammo the past 18 months). If they really want to 'discourage' scalpers, they should make a concerted effort to randomized when the ammo goes on the shelves. Not even the most dedicated scalper can be there all day every day.

What makes you think Walmart gives a crap about "scalpers" (really? still name calling over this? )?

My guess would be that Walmart is tired of its own employees making some $ on the side by tipping people off on when it's coming/hiding it away and waiting for certain people to show up.

Start a thread on whatever trips your trigger. Many members are still hard pressed to find 22 LR let alone be brand selective.

Anyway, you can always start your very own 22 thread void of pricing etc. Just a focus on whatever you want to focus on.

Yes I agree with this. Simmons is my go to store even though I have to drive 35-40 mins from Pell City to do business with them. The 22 shelf is kept stocked. Last I was in there Federal Auto-Match was plenty but a one box limit after I witnessed one person attempting to buy all 20 boxes they had out. He got none and was invited to leave the store permantly.

Heh! If you go by much of what's posted all over the internet on this, there must be all of what...12 people buying up all this ammo? Scalpers or not, these people must already be filthy rich to be able to afford to buy up 5 billion rounds of .22LR a year!

When one retires as a USN CPO you have years of experience developing a keen and sharp sense of humor.

Not to mention those same 12 people and their families and friends must be awfully tired.

On the bright side for those in need, slowly but surely 22LR ammunition is showing up more and more.

Sigh. A couple of things:
1. I was responding to jrdolall's post where he made mention of scalpers.
2. They may not give a crap about 'scalpers' or 'hoarders', but they do give a crap about customer satisfaction. They know many customers are upset that the same few people are buying up all the .22LR. They do try to spread the limited supply around. Why do you think they have limits?

Without looking at Armslist, I believe the scalping (yes. I will call it that) is still going on here. Aside from my two box limit at the Academy located 30 minutes from my house, I cannot find 22 ammo at the big box stores. A couple of smaller shops have it in small quantities and fairly steep prices.

Still can't get pistol powder and primers are hit or miss along with bullets. The shortage continues....

I'm not convinced Armslist is OK. I've seemed to have some unsafe (virus?) connections when I tried them.

What has been your experience?

i was a gun shop about a week ago, 9/18 maybe. They had about 500# of various types in 1& 8# containers

I've gotten about 1,500 rounds of .22 in the last couple weeks

I received 3,925 rounds of .22lr from UPS in one day a couple weeks ago, all well priced, multiple retailers.

It is definitely coming back.

Fair enough. I also 'know' (talked to a couple of people at shops that have said they do this) people that spend every morning going from store to store getting as much .22 as they can to re-sell. Scalpers exist (people who systematically buy up all the supply with no intent for use by themselves, not the person who happens to comes across an opportunity to make a buck) and while they have every right to do what they are doing, I don't have to like it or them.

And to bring my post back on topic...
Even though I was able to find a few bricks last week, .22LR is still hard to come by in my area. My LGS only sells them for use at their range, Walmarts and Dicks are sold out within minutes of getting stock, and next month a couple of my back-orders at Midway will have reached 1 year. I agree that it has gotten better (and hopefully that trend will continue), but it's still rough.

It's called arbitrage.

Don't like it, tell the retailers to charge something closer to market price and cut out the additional middle man until supply/demand stabilizes.

Or go on the internet and call everybody names because you are mad you didn't have enough ammo.


(and once again for the record before you start calling me names because surely I must be one of "those" people to say what I have, I have still been a net seller of .22lr since Dec 2012, as in, I have sold more .22lr from what I owned prior to Dec 2012 than what I have purchased in total since then, additionally, everything I have sold since then I owned prior and everything I have purchased since then I shot or am keeping)

"It" is a pronoun.
"Is" is a verb.
"Its" is the possessive form of "it".
"It's" is a contraction of the two words, "it" and "is".

IMHO "it is" or "it's" time to get back on track of the thread, .22LR, not the subject of grammar.

This was at the store in Phenix City.
This is the first time I have seen a sign indicating that ammo would be put out at a particular time and say though they have had the box limit all along. I haven't seen a box of 22 ammo in a Walmart in two years though I am not a real big Walmart shopper. This particular store always has a good supply of 40 and 45 and lately they have been well stocked on 9mm but rarely any 380. This was the first time I was in that store in a month or so and I don't need any ammo of any caliber. I have many bricks of 22 accumulated over the past year online and I am reloading 9mm and 45. I switched my ccw to a 9mm from 380 so I don't shoot as much 380 now.

Unhappy upon finding/getting .22rf at a good price

Did my weekly asking at local Box store asking for .22's and told no.
Another fellow came and asked shortly after I did and told none to be had.
So I went off and did other shopping for my needs. Then I hear my name on the intercom asking me to come to the sporting goods counter. My wife is there with the same counter person I talked to. Automotive is also in the same area and the two of them had an auto question for me. Got that taken care of and I mentioned I thought I got the call for .22's. They both laughed on how fast I showed up and then the counter help said we should go to the back of the isle while she checks stock.
Out comes an armload. Policy is 2 boxes or one container of ammo.
I got a 1400 rd bucket and my wife, a 525 rd. box.
One more 525 and 5 bricks went to the shelves.
Mixed feelings upon getting this. National shortage of 22?
Stores know there is a demand, what's going on?
This was 2 in the afternoon, not like a store just opening oversight.

Interesting story, but I don't get the starter.

Incidentally, I found, via wikiarms, some .22 at Gander Mountain online the other night. Can't remember what it was (Winchester Super-X or something like that), but it was fairly-priced.

I had just ordered the night before two 325-count boxes of Federal Automatch from another supplier also listed there, and just couldn't muster up the enthusiasm to grab the GM offer. Probably should have, but my credit card was all the way on the other side of the room.

Regarding the shortage, the last time I bought .22LR in person was about two weeks ago. Stopped in at Bass Pro at about 5PM on a Saturday. Made a comment to an associate about the ready availability of .25ACP ammo on the shelf (told him I needed to get a gun in that caliber since ammo was around), and he responded that they had some CCI MiniMags behind the counter if I was interested. Of course, they only had the 100-count sleeves, and the limit was one, but I got one anyway. I was just surprised that there was some out at the time of that day.

What's going on is that if you don't buy your wife a dozen roses right now, you don't deserve her.

I did not know how to express how I felt. If I was working at a store that sold ammo that was in short supply I would be checking stock and supplying shelves.

She keeps what she finds.

Found CCI MiniMags the other day at a big box store for $7.99/100, limit two per customer. I always check when I go in there; sometimes they have some, and if they do, it will be out on the back counter.
