I was going to include this in the Bud's 180 Day Layaway thread but thought better of it. Since it isn't Bud's and it isn't Layaway.

Got an invitation in the mail the other day from Cabela's for an after hours party at the Columbus, Ohio location. Having family down in Columbus we do shop there.

We do a good bit of our Christmas shopping at Cabela's and use the Cabela's credit cards often to accumulate Cabela's bucks. In our case we also pay the card in full every billing period. Anyway the invite says Friday, November 23, 2014. I called with a few questions starting with November 23rd is a Sunday on my calendar and yes, it's Sunday November 23rd 7:30 to 10:30 PM. They are offering their Employee discount which can be a good deal. However, the employee discount only applies when using your Cabela's Club Visa.

I also asked about if I purchase things online or phone and have items shipped to the store if I pick up on Sunday during the after hours party can I get the discount? The answer was absolutely yes, so I am good with that. Long as I put the purchases on my card which is what I would do anyway. I can't use any of my Cabela's bucks but I am fine with that also.

Got to thinking about this and this is, of course a win/win for Cabela's especially in the case of those who don't pay the card statement in full upon receipt. Additionally even when offering the employee discount they still make a buck on the merchandise.

Anyone else gotten one of these invites? Going to take any advantage of it? I want to get some stuff ordered and shipped to the Columbus store for pickup.

I'll likely go. Got the invite and have nothing else to do that night.
I plan to be there. Likely drive down the weekend, see my kids and grand kids and hang at my sister's in Worthington. Kathy, my wife will stay in Cleveland so we don'y have to board the dogs. :) That leaves me in Cabela's unsupervised with credit cards.

I called them about the date issue and they told me it was Friday November 21 evening and Sunday November 23 evening. This is in St. Louis MO. They didn't mention Friday to you?

Nope, I called the Columbus store and the nice girl said Sunday. Makes sense I guess because the regular hours for Columbus, Ohio are Monday through Saturday are 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Sunday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM so a 7:30 PM Sunday start would allow less overlap with their regular hours. The girl did laugh as I wasn't the first to question the dates. :)

I was planning on going on Friday. I guess I'd better check again. One of us is misinformed, so best to know for sure .

You do realize it's just another early 'Black Friday' sale.

And a new way to draw the high-rollers into the store who spend money with them.

Don't you?

Yeah, but I figure if I can knock a few bucks off what I would be doing anyway I may as well. That plus I have done well at that store for reloading components, especially powder so while there anyway I can snag some powder with any luck. Oh yes, and of course the peanut squares are a must and I think they have some dog treats the dogs like.

Could vary by store? If you call again post whatever you learn. Then I will maybe give another call. Soon as I mentioned it she was right on it knowing the invite was not printed correctly. My second question on applying the discount did require some checking and transferring me to a nice guy who was real helpful.

A new Cabelas opened about 35 miles from here in August. Since I have a card I got an invitation to visit the store a day or so before the official grand opening. Apparently about 10,000 others got the same letter.

I don't regret going, and they did actually some stuff priced well below their regular prices. We bought some needed life jackets, but it was pretty crowded.

I can usually find a few good things for good prices there. Not guns though.
Every once in a while a price on a gun will be better than elsewhere. I was shopping for a rifle several years ago. I called 3 or 4 local sporting goods stores and it turned out that the WV Cabelas had the best price. I bought mine new for 2 or 3 hundred dollars less than I've seen that rifle go for used since then.

the card says friday. the 23rd. there is no friday the 23 in November, so I also called and its Sunday the 23rd.
The wife and I will be going to the one here in Maine.

That's what I have for Columbus, Ohio. Now aside from Kathy's list I just hope I find some reloading stuff I would like. :)

I go every year in KC,KS. It's fun and, since I buy lots of stuff at Cabela's anyway, it saves me a few $. I also always pay my balance in full.

Just got a phone call from Cabela's. I can say without a doubt that for the Columbus, Ohio store the event is Sunday. :) Apparently they received enough calls on the subject and the confusing flyer they mailed out.

I've found Cabela's is usually expensive on guns - sometimes absurdly so - but IF you hit a sale and IF you have a coupon and IF you have some Cabela's Bucks, you can sometimes get a good deal.

I've noticed that the coupons they send out come less frequently and are less valuable than they were a few years back. :(

As for "employee discount" sales . . . they'd be more interesting if you knew what the heck the discount was BEFORE purchasing an item. Various forum posts suggest best discounts are on out-of-season Cabela's brand merchandise, with worst discounts on new guns and ammo.

Maybe its the thought that counts. I will meet up with some friends and their families, hang out, maybe find a good deal, maybe not. But talking guns and reloadin is always fun in my book. And its warmer in there then the range right now. lol.

I used to go Cabelas a LOT. I have one in my sales territory and drive right past it every week. The Bargain Cave had some screaming deals.

Now, that has pretty much gone, and so are the deals. And honestly, there are few things I need any more. I've got more crap than I can use/store

That said, it's a good place to go if you wanna see some cool stuff

I have enough "stuff" as well but still hit the store from time to time with a coupon and cabela's bucks in hand. The store in KCK isn't all that far and it makes for a good family outing.

I'm a card holder and got such an invitation c. 2007. Back then I lived near a store, in Glendale, AZ. There was a pretty good crowd and even a live band playing bluegrass music. :) I expect I'll get another when the store in Bristol, VA gets built.

The party in Wichita KS is Friday Nov. 21 for holders of Black of Silver cards, Sunday Nov. 23 for all card holders. My wife will be out of town, what an opportunity.
