So my Glock 19 Gen 4 semi-failed on 2nd trip to the range. The slide lock lever fell out and gun malfunctioned. I dd some research and it looks like a known issue. Research says Glock replaced the slide lock spring with a new model that has more tension so i ordered one instead of paying $60 to send gun back to glock.

Anyone else have this issue? Gun is only 6 months old.

Glock part number SP 08073 should be the correct spring; not a #2317. I suspect, though, some parts' differences are either very small or non-existent, yet have different numbers. With that said, I've never seen these two different part numbers next to each other.

Glock only sends a few parts to a non-Glock-Armorer, unlike other manufacturers. They've always been this way.

I bought a NIB Gen4 G19 in approximately May of 2013 & had the exact same issue at about 400 rounds. I have good news & I have bad news.

The bad news: Glock will only send parts to Glock armorers. I'm not a Glock Armorer, so they wouldn't send me the part. The worse news is that I know about a dozen armorers & had one order the spring over 6 months ago & it still hasn't arrived.

The good news: It's about a $3 part & ridiculously easy to install. I ordered a couple from glockparts.com (best shipping costs & very fast), then spent about 5 minutes watching YouTube videos. I'm not mechanically inclined, either. I'm about 500 rounds past installing the new spring without further problems.

I don't recall reading of that issue so it's probably not super-common, though I don't doubt others have had the same thing if you found it reported.

Glocks are very easy to work on, if you know the part that needs replaced there is no reason to send it to them, really. A simple punch or the cheap "Glock tool" is the only thing you need for a full detail strip (which is pretty easy, just watch YouTube videos as you do it the first time).

This supports the theory that you should take a gun to the range 2-3 times and put several hundred rounds through it (including at least 50+ of your carry/defensive round I think) before trusting it.

Yes i got the SP08073 spring. Hope it fixes it. Based on youtube reviews and forums, it appears this is a common problem. Kinda disappointed with Glock at the moment, with parts simply falling out of the gun while your shooting it for the second time ever. I'll give it another chance after the spring replacement.

Shooting a gun for the second time ever is precisely when you want a failure to manifest. That is the exact reason why it is good practice to take a defensive firearm to the range a couple or few times for a certain round count (and round type) before trusting it.

I really don't think it's that common of a problem, as I've said I can't recall hearing of it before, and I've read a bunch of threads specifically on the topic of Gen4 Glocks/people asking about problems with them.

If you are that upset by it sell the gun and try something else. But don't go searching forums for any problems on that something else, because you'll surely find them. ;)

I'm not upset, just disappointed.
I have been disappointed, upset and pissed off at many other guns I no longer own. ;)

fix it then sell/trade for a gen3...
Although I thought about getting Gen4 Glocks, I am very happy with my Gen3 Glocks. Tens of thousands of rounds shot through them and no breakage.

Glad you got your issue fixed.

No need to be so defensive over someone else's disappointment with their malfunctioning Glock. And I don't believe he said he was "that upset." ;)

Just the gen4 19 suffers or all gen 4 models? First I heard of it...course i don't follow the glock boards daily.....

Op don't feel too bad I had sig p238 after many hundreds of rounds the slide stop popped out while shooting. Stuck it back in shot another 50 rounds couldn't get it to do it again. Hundreds of rounds and months later did it again. Couldn't replicate it again. Sent it to sig....they did whatever they did. Never had it happen again many years and rounds later. Things can go wrong......

You've just experienced why I don't pay much attention when somebody at the range tells me their 1911HiPointH&KKahrKelTecXDS&WRuger has "Never jammed in 200 rounds!" You run enough rounds through any gun, something is going to fail at some point. And in my experience, failures with name-brand pistols having out-of-spec parts happen earlier in the life-cycle rather than later (300-1000 rounds or so). Case in point: I had an early Walther P-990 (DAO trigger in a P-99) the broke the recoil spring assembly after 300 rounds. S&W sent 2 replacements and life went on.

And then there's the famous Glock E-series "non-recall" for frame rail issues. Yeah, I had one of those too, my Glock 17. It went about 7500 rounds before losing one of the rear frame rails. Broke where it is bent over by the forming machine. (When anybody says "it's a plastic pistol!" I enjoy mentioning it was a metal piece that broke. :neener: ) Glock replaced the frame and it's closing in on another 7500 rounds.

Don't get me started on the "revolvers never fail" camp either. I have 2 S&Ws in the locker that have proven this false (one light strikes and the other binds up with any little fleck of FOD under the extractor), and had a 3rd that would back out the ejector rod, making reloads a bit tough.

That said I'm looking to get a Gen 4 Glock 19 by spring. I've read some of the horror stories about them but am 98% confident I'll get one that works flawlessly. If it doesn't, odds are good the fix will be simple and life will go on.

This is true.

I know a guy with a certain AR. He claimed it was great/perfect/no problems. Then I was shooting next to him when he had 2 failures to fire out of 5 rounds, using Federal XM855. He proceeded to 'warn me' about that ammo, as he regularly has that problem (I'm thinking, wait, what, you said you had no problems with that rifle?). He gave me one of those rounds and I put it in my rifle, worked perfectly. Have to take it with a grain of salt when people say their firearm has been perfect.

(the rifle I put that round in has about 3,500 through it, the one and only issue of any kind was a single magazine induced failure to feed using a mag I knew was prone to that issue that I only used at the range...FWIW)

It's fixed. No worries. Don't the 9mm Gen4's have a different recoil spring and rod than the .40's. My Gen4 G23 seems a little stiffly sprung, I can't imagine the 9mm's likeing that.

I don't carry anything with less than 1000 perfectly reliable rounds through it anymore. That's just the world we live in.

I'm awaiting Glock to return my G23gen3 with a new frame for my s/n ExxnnnUS with the same issue. Their 8 week estimate, so far, has turned into 3 months. Perhaps that special Vickers run and the holidays got in the way of making my one frame with a "1" in front of the original serial number.

Before the frame rail broke, this G23gen3 also had the older, original narrow slide lock spring break. As I recall, the slide lock fell out somewhere and was lost due to the broken slide lock spring.
