Ruger finally listened - Mini-14 in 300BLK

Why? I'd rather build and upper for my AR.
My thinking is more...
Why..they already have one in the more powerful, easier to find and cheaper 7.62x39
It ends up with none of the advantages that the 300 blk has for the AR...which is using standard bolts and magazines.

Why? Because I, and probably at least a few other people, prefer the ergonomics of the Mini (no pistol grip, no protruding mag well) for a walkaround rifle. I prefer to walk the earth with a rifle in the hand as opposed to slung on a carrying strap, and a more traditional stock and receiver shape is mo' better for that chore than is an AR.
And yes, I still-hunt with an AR, and have for more than a decade. I use the AR platform in the field because I prefer intermediate chambering rifles that are optics-friendly, but that doesn't mean that it scratches all itches.
The 300BLK version of the Mini should use the same Mini-14 bolt and mags as the 5.56/223 version, same as my 300BLK AR can use my 5.56 AR mags and bolts.

I guess that would be a big advantage...if you could change uppers on a Mini...or if mini magazines were as prevalent as AR magazines.
Since you can't, why buy a 300 black mini over a 7.62x39 mini?
There are many people out there who like the feel and function of the Mini. I love my Mini-30 and shoot it far more than my AK or SKS. For those who want the ergonomics of the Mini but don't care for the AR style, offering a 300BLK chambering makes sense to me. More choice is not a bad thing, and let the market bear out what will be a long-term winner.

They've already offered it in the 30 Remington based 6.8 SPC but discontinued it. But I also think they should get back to it in some form. It's impressive what some folks are doing with the 30 Remington based cases, like the necked up 358 MGP. The 35 KLR is interesting too, which is to the 6.8 as 300 BO is to the 5.56x45.Yep, should have chambered it in .30 Remington.
Smells like Ruger is a day late and buck short with the Mini on this 300 blackout wagon. But, I suppose it was an easy change up in the factory to make them.
I would agree with that. Don't raise the barrier to adoption.

I was thinking of buying a new Stag Arms left handed AR upper in .300aacblackout but this cool new Ruger could meet my needs.
I also like the left handed bolt action Ruger 7.62 Scout rifle so there is that.
Maybe Ruger will roll out a .300aac-blackout in that rifle line in 2016.
It's a smart move on Rugers part and will be a hit with Mini 14 shooters.

I have a Mini30 Tactical and think very well of it. The single biggest reason to favor 300BLK is reloading - I can use the 125gr and 150gr bullet stock that I keep for my 308 and 30-06 light/youth loadings in the 300BLK. As it stands right now, I have to keep a stock of both .308 and .3105/.311 bullets on hand to feed the different chamberings. It's also easier to get good 300BLK brass for reloading than good 7.62x39 brass.
I have one of those in stainless, and it's my standard 'go-to' iron for a simple iron sighted walkabout long gun. The ProMag 20rd magazines work quite well, if a body feels the need to use a higher capacity magazine.
There is one - it's called the M14/M1A.
The Mini14 was, not surprisingly, supposed to be a mini version of the full size M14 action, to size it appropriately to the intermediate chamberings that replaced the 7.62x51/308 full power chambering. Trying to size it back up again didn't work, and doesn't really make much sense.

Surprised that this is their first offering in that caliber. Would have figured that they would have produced one in their AR line first.
I have an AR in 300 BLK, but still think this is an exciting new product. I like my old Ranch Rifle Mini 14 .223, so so accuracy and everything.

Not a big fan of the round, but glad Ruger is coming out with it. I like having my GB in .223 for coyotes or rabid racoons.

vapor ware I say for at least 18 months. Ruger can't keep up or produce the model 6968 300 blackout Ranch Rifle. Mine has been on order from 7 different dealers in the area since second week of release last year.
Disappointing.

Durable enough for me, and mine is a used MS State Troopers model. Nary a hiccup nor a jam.
