I took about 15 days from the time they got it to the time it was back on my doorstep.

Apparently, mine had a bad hand as they replaced it, and also test fired the gun. That fixed the problem, the gun now locks up well before the hammer fall in DA mode. All in all, very pleased with Charter Arms customer service. Didn't cost me a dime, and they actually employ HUMANS to answer the phones at Charter Arms, not robots!

I really love this gun! I've been looking for one for a while, so decided to get one of Gunbroker knowing it might be off since I couldn't check it out in person. I knew Charter would come through if there was a problem, and they certainly did.

Now I've got to find a way to carry the gun. I'm thinking of swapping the grips for some Eagle Secret Services boot grips in checkered rosewood, and carrying it in a Remora "clip free" holster IWB. Don't even get me started on trying to find a carry load! As much as I like the big .44 special round, you'd be surprised at the lack of effective hollow points that will work from the short 2.5" barrel on these guns.

Still though, I'm glad I got a .44 Bulldog. It's a gun I've wanted for a long time now.

cooldill, don't get so hung up on "effective" hollow points. until you get light weight/high velocity rounds in it, theyre all essentially the same.

I just got a 9mm Pitbull. Its going to be several days until I can pick it up, but its paid for, and being held by my favorite dealer. I have wanted one of these since they were announced.

^^^ there was one on GB yesterday...... I'd like to read a few reviews about them.

Wow! I'll have to look into it. I think I read the cylinder is a hair wider than the .44 bulldogs, but it's okay as there are far better defense loads available in .45 ACP vs .44 special from what I can tell.

Im picking up my 9mm Pitbull this morning. I have been searching for one since they were announced. That only took 7 years. I wont be holding my breath for the 45 Pitbull.

Something I think about now & then, the .44 Special starts out as large as most expanding .38s or 9s EVER get!
Then if you throw in a good SWC or WC wellll a full caliber hole all the way through something gets a lot of attention.

Don't get me wrong, a good .38 or 9 is pretty effective, but don't count out a .44 Cal (actually .42 or .43) they make a substantial hole!

It is in production in limited quantities. Not sure which vendors it can be ordered from right now. I remember that on another thread someone was able to order one.

Simply not true.

There are numerous .38 special and 9mm loads that expand reliably out to well beyond .60 caliber.

As much as I like my .44 Bulldog, I've been having second thoughts about it. There is just no ammo that will reliably expand from the gun's short barrel, and the few loads that do work well are either too powerful for the Bulldog or are out of production.

When I can get the same or better performance with modern high tech +P ammo in my S&W 642, vs the paltry and disappointing .44 special defense load offerings, the laws of diminishing returns come into play.

BUT, back to the OP, very cool revolvers! I'm on the lookout for the .45 Pitbull. Ammo is way cheaper than my .44 special Bulldog, and there are many good .45 ACP hollow points on the market.

Cooldill, have you tried out the GOLD DOT in your Bulldog? the cci version is cheaper for target practice, the speer version uses better quality brass for serious uses. many consider the GOLD DOT one of the best hollow points in production.

before you dump your bulldog, try some GOLD DOT in some one gallon water jugs....

I tried the Blazer version, boy do they stick in my gun! Not good for defense.

Cooldill, the speer first in the gun, the cci as the reload.

I kind of like the Gold Dot in the .44 Special. One of these days I'm going to have to test them in my mild carton water test.

has anyone crony'ed the 40 out of that little barrel and very big gap between cylinder and barrel???? i had a charter arms .44 bulldog and the gap was around .010" i sent it back to charter arms and they said within specs. crony'ed max 240 grain'ers at 650 FPS. lol no go on that. cam out of my 2 1/2" S&W at 840FPS.....

yes on the pit bull .40. a gun mag article was done a few years ago that had chrono data. I think the author was William bell.

thanks, but i do not believe in articles on guns. To much back door endorsement money for me to ever trust.
