Dear THR:
In your opinion which is the EDC pistol in .45? Considering, reliability, combat accuracy, durability, capacity and concealability.

Thanks

I'm very pleased with my kahr cw-45. Thin, light and very easy to carry. Reliable and accurate. Mine has been perfect out of the box.

Concealability is important to me, so I say XDs. If open carrying, I like the HK45.

1911 Commander for "full size-ish"

Glock 30 Gen4 for "1/4" shorter than a G19"

Small compact: One of the Kahr 45 variants or XDS 45

Top choice would be S&W CS .45. Sadly now only available on second-hand market.

Ive been carrying an m&p 45. Reliability has been perfect with reloads and factory ammo. Accuracy is good with a fully loaded mag weighs in at 2lbs 4 ounces 10rds. 230 grains.

1911. Pick your brand. Mine is a Taurus PT1911AR. I"d like a LW Commander or Kimber Pro TLE/RLII, but $$$ is tight so I'll keep my PT145 for a smaller carry .45.

A Colt Defender, New Agent, Officers Model, CCO, or a Commander would serve you well as an EDC gun.

"THE" .45 for EDC? There are so many good answers, but it depends on what you're looking for and how you'll carry it. I have little or no hands-on experience with some of these, but I'll play. Here are my suggestions, worth exactly what you've paid for them.
  • Easy concealment -- XDs. This one is also a surprisingly soft shooter, IMHO.
  • Slightly more difficult concealment -- One of the Dan Wesson commander-length bobtails. I don't think I've ever even held one, but they make me drool.
  • Open carry -- I'll go with G21. It's kind of hard to argue with 13 rounds of .45. Also a surprisingly soft shooter. Or maybe something like a Smith and Wesson 4506, but I don't know a lot about that line.
