Smith and Wesson 4506--Thoughts and Experiences?

The LGS has a S&W 4506 in the gun case, and I had a chance to handle it the other day. For those who either have or had one, what are your thoughts and experiences regarding this pistol?

    16ga ???

My brother and I inherited my grandfather's and uncle's 16 gauge guns--a Stevens 620 and a Mossberg bolt action. My brother picked the Mossberg, with the pump going to me. The Stevens is fairly heavy, and the Mossberg isn't exactly speedy when chambering the next round. Still, we shoot them...

    Who scopes their .22s?

As with other members, I have a mix of scoped and unscoped .22 rifles. The earlier 5-teen Remingtons are not drilled and tapped and do not have dovetails and thus are scope free, as is the Remington 33. A later 512 has dovetails and wears a 2x7. The other bolt actions and a couple of 10/22s...

    9422 vs 39a

Well, to close the loop on the thread I recently picked this up at a gun show. Looks great, shoots great. Serial number puts it around 1990 manufacture I think.

Ammo packaging from the good ole days.

A few older 16 gauge boxes. I enjoy the Sears Roebuck box of slugs—note that they are 2 and 9/16 length.

Any traditional bow hunters out there?

So I am not a bow hunter, but I do occasionally shoot a recurve in the backyard when the spirit moves me. My best friend is a lifelong bow hunter, and has pretty much used recurves the entire time. Some off the shelf stock bows early on, and later some custom bows. He is a right handed...

Have 22LR and 17HMR—Does 22 Mag bring anything to the table?

Hi All, I have numerous scoped and non-scoped 22LR rifles, as well as a scoped 17HMR rifle. Wondering if a 22 Mag rimfire would give me anything those two don’t. Use would primarily be from a bench or plinking. My hunting is primarily deer or things that fly, with an occasional informal...

Who regularly shoots a gun older than they are??

I have numerous firearms that are older than I am and they all get some use here and there, but the one that gets the most use is a Remington Model 33 inherited from my uncle.

    9422 vs 39a

Just wondering, for those who have had and/or shot both do you prefer the Winchester 9422 or the Marlin 39a?

Who was your biggest influence in the firearms/shooting world?

I had 3 main influences for shooting. First was my Uncle Dave, who took me and my cousins .22 shooting one day. Only time, but the hook was set. Second was my sister’s husband Larry who was an ex-Army Ranger. He liked firearms but was more into hunting overall, and firearms were more or...

    Winchester 61 or 9422?

Hi All, One of the LGSs has both a Winchester Model 61 pump and a 9422 listed for sale on their website. Both look to be in nice condition, though I haven’t seen either one in person. Was wondering what people’s experience is with either or both of them for both functionality and “fun...

Your Favorite Smith & Wesson & Why

While I have a variety of S&W revolvers ranging from J-frames to N-frames, I am most likely to grab one of the K-frames when I am headed out to do some shooting. That being said, my favorite is a 4 inch L-frame 586. My first Smith, and first double action revolver, circa1991.

    Browning BPS thoughts

Thanks everyone for your replies. The BPS I was looking at online was gone from the LGS by the time I got there. But I'll keep my eyes open for one.

    Browning BPS thoughts

I have become a little intrigued with Browning’s BPS pump shotgun, and their are a couple listed as available in local shops. Haven’t seen them in person yet. Wondering what people’s experiences and views on them are for handling, durability, and overall use? How do they compare to to an older...

Do you have sentimental hunting gear?

I grew up in a non-hunting, non-shooting household. Not anti, just no one did it. Early adulthood I connect with a friend who did both, and my sister married a guy who hunted, so I got some mentors. Started deer hunting, and while I didn't shoot any deer for quite a few seasons, I was around...
