    Ruger No. 1 Tropical

Here's a picture of a No1 Tropical in 458 Win Mag. I found it cheap on the used gun rack a dozen years ago, and had to buy it. It was a beauty. The first time I shot it was in the summer, off a concrete bench, in a T-shirt. That baby kicked. I was done after shooting four 350gr@2410fps and four...

    Unknown Choke

I had a 20ga barrel threaded for chokes many years ago by Carlson's, and it takes Tru-Choke tubes. I believe this is a common threading for non-factory chokes. The Brownell's page lists some thread specs for reference. The thread gage from your tap and die set should have 32tpi, but not sure if...

    lets see those rimfires

There are a lot of fantastic guns in this thread! Here's a unique one. A 100+yr old Stevens Favorite takedown .22 with a reflex sight and threaded barrel. I didn't want to screw up the original barrel assembly, so I made one with a takeoff Remington barrel. It is really quiet with a suppressor...

    Griffin Armament EXPLORR EX6 6.5mm

Hello flatsticks. I got my first suppressor a few months ago, a Griffin Explorr 30cal. It has been great. I have shot it on my 300Blackout, 7mm-08, 6.5Grendel, and 6Creedmoor. It is pretty light, solid construction, and suppresses very well. You'll like it!

    AR 10 FTE

I assembled a large format AR in 7mm/08 several years ago, and I was getting stove piping too. It took a while to figure out. My gun would eject an empty case when cycling the action slowly, but I found that the case would be knocked back into the loading port if I yanked the BCG back rapidly. I...

Inexpensive but accurate .223 target ammo?

Try a box of PPU .223 69gr Match ammo. Cabela's has it for $10 a box. It shot the best out of 6 or 8 boxes of factory ammo that I tried in a no-name 20inch 1in8 twist.

    damaged my 1895 stock!!

I completely understand your disappointment, but I agree with others that have said that you should consider it to be the first of many marks that the gun will endure. Here’s a somewhat relevant story… 25(ish) years ago, I won a Beretta AL390 semi-auto shotgun as a door prize at an event that I...

    6.5-284 in Savage short?

Yes, I have an unusual barrel taper on my Savage rifle and fit the stock to it. I like the idea of getting the same barrel contour and use the same stock, but it wouldn't be too big a deal to get another stock. Or just accept the inconsistent gap between barrel and stock.

    6.5-284 in Savage short?

I might be interested in getting a pre-fit, large shank Savage 6.5 WSM barrel too. I would like a custom contour to fit my stock.

What Caliber Contender Barrel for Young Shooter's First Deer Season?

I'll throw in another vote for the 7-30 Waters. My Dad used to have one in a Contender pistol and it was a good little cartridge. You can load it light now, and step it up (a little) as he/she gets older. A 30 Herrett would be a fun cartridge too. It is formed from 30-30 brass and was designed...

Good 223 60-69 gr factory load?

Try a box of PPU 223 Match 69gr. They can be had for about 50cpr. They shot well for me out of a no-name 1-8 twist barrel.

Calibers and loads for high performance in short action rifles

That will be a sweet rifle! I agree with you on being different. The "straight" 284Win would be a great choice. It is ironic that you will likely need to buy 6.5-284 brass and expand it back to 7mm. I am contemplating getting a second barrel for a Savage rifle that I currently have set up for...

Calibers and loads for high performance in short action rifles

Good project! Here's my load data (with all of the usual warnings): 7mm-08, 120 Nosler Ballistic Tip, 47.5gr CFE223, BR2 primer, 2.807 OAL, Hornady brass, 3032fps avg (I don't record temp, but it was likely 75-80F) 7mm-08, 162 Horn Amax, 45.5gr H414, CCI250 primer, 2.825 OAL, Winchester...

Calibers and loads for high performance in short action rifles

I assembled a large format AR earlier this year in 7mm-08. I went back and forth between 7mm-08 and 6.5C, and finally decided upon 7mm-08 for two reasons: 1) I already have a 7mm-08 bolt gun and reloading supplies, and 2) I wanted something a little different. My rifle has a fixed stock and a...
