NEED HELP: puzzled by conflicts between reloading manuals

Actually when loading 124 gr FMJ I have been using Winchester bullets. The have the same length as the Speer and the ogives appear to be similar if not identical. I do not have a chronometer but I may get one some day soon. Thanks for the recommendation.

NEED HELP: puzzled by conflicts between reloading manuals

I am often puzzled by the differences in recommended loads in various manuals. The two books that I consult most often are the Speer manual (my favorite) and the Hornady manual. Lately I have been trying to develop loads using Alliant Power Pistol powder for my 9mm handguns using 124 grain FMJ...

Primers clogging up my Lee Classic Cast press

There probably was a time, long, long ago, when I could hear pirmers fall but since I turned 70 that time is long past. However, I can see them and I should have been watching. I tend to approach cleaning and de-priming as mindless tasks and don't pay as much attention as I should. Even at my...

Primers clogging up my Lee Classic Cast press

Mystery solved ... My error... as usual Some of your responses triggered me to do some thinking and remembering. Just before depriming 250 ea 9mm cases, I deprimed a batch of 500 .45ACP cases. While doing that batch of .45 ACP cases I wasn't paying attention to the flexible plastic primer tube...

Primers clogging up my Lee Classic Cast press

I have a Lee Classic Cast press that I have been using for years with no issues at all. I often use my Lee cast turret press to reload my pistol ammo but I usually use my single stage Lee Classic press to remove primers prior to cleaning the fired brass. This Lee Classic single stage is one...

    Goofy Federal primer boxes

I figured out how to open the box and that's not an issue. It's that the box is bigger than the Lee safety loader tray so it's hard to put 50 on the tray with out spilling some. Also, the fact that they are in the box sideways makes it easy for them to roll out during transfer to the tray. With...

    Goofy Federal primer boxes

Because of issues with seating primers in Armcor .45 ACP Brass I am trying Federal primers in place of Winchester and CCI. I use a Lee safety Prime that is an on press system where you place the primers into a round tray. I usually just place the tray on top of an open box of primers and flip...

Which dies for Savage Model 99 in .300 Savage?

I am getting ready to purchase reloading dies for my Savage Model 99 in .300 Savage. I prefer RCBS dies. They offer both standard Full Length resizing dies and also Small Base dies. RCBS text on Midway site says the SB dies are better for Lever guns. I have often heard of SB dies for semi-autos...

Need primer catcher for Pacific press

I have an old Pacific Multi Power C reloading press that is missing the primer catcher cup. I contacted Hornady who bought our Pacific years ago but they said that they had no replacement primer catchers for these obsolete presses. Can anyone suggest where I might look to find one?

    Remington Model 12 ejector issues

Problem solved with my model 12 ejector :DSUCCESS! I got it figured out and it ejects perfectly now. My rifle has a late style ejector which is a plunger and coil spring screwed into the Trigger Group frame behind the hammer and recessed into the stock. It is supposed push the firing pin out...

    Remington Model 12 ejector issues

I just got a Remington Model 12C and it won't eject. I cycled some dummy rounds thorugh it and feeds from the mag tube just fine. The firing pin makes a definite strike impression on the rim. The round extracts perfectly but it does not eject. I am not familiar with these rifles as this is my...

Marble tang sight for Savage 99

Bending Marble sight base Actually the tech rep at Marble advised me to bend my base. He said that it was soft steel and easy to bend. I did as he suggested and it worked pretty well. I also sanded the wood down a bit to make it flush with the metal around the tang. I restained the wood with...

    Which .357 Lever Carbine?

Lever Action .357 About two years ago I found a Marlin 1894 CBC (CBC = Competiton Cowboy) on a used rack for $400. It listed at $960 new and they stopped making the CBC version. It appeared to be in NIB condition. It was .38 Special only but I had my gunsmith ream the chamber a bit longer to...
