I spent most of my money on women, guns and reloading equipment. The rest I just wasted.
Seriously, I always enjoy my time at the reloading bench. I started after prices rose and the lack of availability of ammo made it difficult to shoot frequently. This was before we could no longer buy...
Thank you. I read that the 7.62 chamber has a minimum size that is about .0055" bigger than the .308, making it risky to shoot non-NATO ammo in a 7.62 chamber. Is that incorrect ?
General reloading question.
I process a lot of 45 acp in one sitting so it's ready for the range. I like to keep the brass between the max length and the trim to length, which I consider the minimum case length for headspace reasons.
I usually deprime dirty brass on a Lee single stage to keep...
I have been working on the 45 Colt loads. I find better performance using Oregon Trail 255 gr swc bullets than the Hornaday 200 gr swc. I'm using AA No. 5, their load data and a good crimp for these bullets. They seem more consistent.
Thanks for the replies.
Not loading cowboy loads, (at least not per the Hornaday book). My chrono is showing 200 fps below the same loads shot from a 7.5" barrel.
I will look into the loads mentioned above. Thanks for the information !
Great forum.
Can this kind of performance be safely duplicated with smokeless powder in a similar revolver ?
The data in my manuals (Hornaday and Lyman) don't seem to support this in Non Ruger loads.
Thank you for the fast reply. I guess what I am asking is what type of velocity loss is normal from a 7.5" barrel to a 5.5". If 850 fps is the max for any given powder and a particular bullet combo from a 7.5" barrel, is there a "standard" loss of velocity I should see from my 5.5" barrel that...
I am beginning to load 45 Colt for a Ruger New Vaquero. All the data I see shows velocities obtained from a 7.5" barrel SAA. I would like to get about 850 fps from a 250 grain Hornaday XTP from my 5.5" barrel but max loads show 900 ish from 7.5" barrels. Any ideas on where to get data for 5.5"...
