How close is too close to the lands?

"pretty much" is within a thou either direction. I can't state specifically as they have already been shot, but I am just wanting to make sure whether I should load at that depth any more, or if it will pose a danger to me or someone else.

How close is too close to the lands?

So, maybe seat them one or two thou shorter and I should be in the clear? When I measured a box of 40 I made, they all pretty much were 3.100".

How close is too close to the lands?

I made my OAL guage, using a bullet pushed into the case by the rifling, and it measured in at 3.101", but the OAL recommended in the Hodgdon manual says to use a OAL of 3.100". Is this too close to the lands? Will this cause issue being that close?

    Carbide dies

Joker, there is no sense in just saying it doesn't exist. Especially since it was pointed out that they do exist in a form. Carbide would work great as gamestalker posted, for neck sizing only. For FL sizing, forget about it (at least cheap dies lol). I have to put in a vote for a collet die...

So, what about the RCBS lube dies? Anyone ever used them? https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/12685

    Neck sizing possibility?

You don't need a mandrel if you run it over the expander button in the FL die. If the expander is lowered enough, it won't touch the inside of the FL die, and deprime the case just fine.

That was kinda my thought. More lube = more mess, but if I can lube once it is running through the press, then the case feeder and whatnot stays clean.

So, what do you guys think about the RCBS lube die? It seems like an easy option to keep my fingers clear of the press. I just saw it in a youtube vid, and it looked like it might work, the only question is, can I re-size on station 2 in the Pro1000 or will it torque around and break something...

What clever little things have you "invented or discovered" that you can share?

I like it better than my bottle cap screwed to the bottom of the bench and threading the bottle into it. Moves the clutter out of the way so you don't do what I did, and knock a bottle full of primers to the floor!

    RCBS Trimmer Wobble

I'd just call em and see what they'll do. It looks like the wobble is coming from that washer/set ring. They will either replace the part or the whole thing I would assume.

Chris, let me know if you want to adopt a poor college student lol! :) That setup is...wow...I wan't one.

    Tumbler suggestions?

Ohh, and to add the fact that numerous companies buy a product from a manufacturer, label it their own and price it to fit their own needs. Not to go off topic, but I have a compressor from harbor freight, and it has the part numbers and badging that match another company, that sells it for 4x...

    Too close to the lands?

Actually, I have a question on the same topic. I measured my "OAL gauge" (case w/ loose bullet) ad it showed 3.101", but the book shows 3.100" reccommended OAL. Is 3.100" too close to the lands? From what I have understood so far from reading on here is you basically want no rifling...

I have never had a problem with the Pro1k on primers at all. Just make sure to use a bit of graphite in the primer channel and polish it in with a q-tip or something. So I guess I just have to run it in two batches then.

    Neck sizing possibility?

It seems as though it doesn't need a mandrel. You don't have a mandrel for the brass to push against in a normal FL or neck die, so with this it is just a matter of setting the FCD to squeeze down enough to re-form, without de-forming it. Then it's just a matter of pulling it to the exact...
