    Funnest gun you have shot

A reproduction New Army (I think) Not exciting and the guy who had it thought it was funny that I was gah gah over the cheapest gun he owned. But come on, black powder is fun. I giggled with every shot. If someone ever leaves me alone with one of those things, they'll come back to a...

    Better for first timer - duty-size 9mm or .38?

To those who keep bringing up preferences of the person being taught to shoot, Yeah, I don't care what they think is "cool" or what not. If someone asks me to teach them to shoot a gun, I'm going to teach them to shoot. If they want to shoot a specific gun, then they can learn to shoot and...

    Better for first timer - duty-size 9mm or .38?

Either way works, but each is going to have it's pro's and con's and each is going to have a different focus in terms of technique. I scoff at the "Not the revolver" because it's a longer, harder trigger nonsense. There are very few people out there that absolutely cannot physically...

    Very discouraged with subcompact autos...

Okay, last week I finally hit the breaking point because my hands were getting filthy every time I touched the thing. 801 rounds, no cleaning, dirty (factory) ammo. XDs .45, I'm up to about 1200 rounds through it total (got it around Christmas), now and have had one malfunction (failure to...

What does it mean to be a "gun snob"?

I don't think I've ever used gun snob in that context. Usually, I go with fanbois. I've joked about being a gun snob, as well as being a fanboi, but I consider being a gun snob as just being snobby about what someone would and would not own. I consider gun snobbyness to be more along the...

    House/purse carry gun for wife

If she already knows enough about shooting to be playing with your guns, she knows enough to pick out her own if she wants a gun. If she wants a gun, then she can go shopping for a gun.

first steps with shooting for my 10-year-old daughter should be?

Sam1911, I don't know if he can, but I will certainly share why I think rifle should be first. First of all, rifles are more obvious when you break safety rules, which is a good thing for someone who hasn't gotten them ingrained yet. It is easier to see a rule about to be broken and correct...

Why the hate for the XD?

and you can really make them blow a gasket when you snark that Glock just ripped off HK. :neener: (I am a bad person. I am a bad bad person. I like messing with rabid fanbois) Haters got to hate. I have XDs. I have Glocks. I also have other flavors of plastic striker fired pistols. Which one...

first steps with shooting for my 10-year-old daughter should be?

I was 8 and started with a rifle. I moved up to pistols pretty fast after that. I understand that the whole idea of starting with rifles is somewhat passe these days, because for some reason it's considered boring, but I still think that learning rifle first is better. Also, I highly...

    Is this normal?

Yeah, I just saw that mentioned on another board. Weird. I actually like getting the spent casing.

    40 S&W hard to shoot?

No, it's not. Different guns, different recoil. Those who have issues? As I said before, fix your grip and stop whining.

    "Starter" 1911

My Dad was so chipper with his GI RIA that he went and got himself the Officer for Christmas. The GI isn't fancy or slick, but my Dad wanted his 1911 that way. Definitely worth what you pay for it and then some. If you want to pay more, Springfield would be my recommendation.

    Ouch, dang the 40SW

*snicker* My Dad gave me a S&W M-19 when I was 16. I never shot anything but .38 special out of it for a long, long, long time, because I was too chicken. All I'd ever heard was how nasty the recoil was. Finally, after years of being little chicken, I put some .357 mag through it. The first...

Springfield Armory 1950 New Product Launches

Nothing saying you have to keep it and I'm betting that too tachticool for school would look nice in trade on the M1A I want. ;)
