    Safe to continue using this?

Lol glad to hear it’s not just me. I’m a pretty big guy and I was concerned that if I hit them any harder, I’d bend the barrel or cause some other damage.

    Safe to continue using this?

I didn’t want to unintentionally imply anything bad about the company based on my own lack of knowledge of the pins. I have a lot of respect for the company - not just their work but what they stand for. I’d rather not say, but if there’s some specific reason you’re wondering, shoot me a DM and...

    Safe to continue using this?

Evidently a friend of a friend is an actual gunsmith, and said this is normal and how they’re supposed to be installed. Other than cosmetically butchering it (even though it will be hidden beneath the new rail), totally safe to shoot. Guess I’m officially a fudder of guns. For shame.

    Safe to continue using this?

I've had an AR with A2 front sight and clamshell handguard for a few years, and finally decided to convert it to a free float rail. I had a heck of a time removing the gas block taper pins. I'm talkin two hours of trying to gently grind the heads of the pins and then tapping (read: banging the...

That’s more info than I could have hoped for lol. Thanks a bunch.

    Concerned this might be unsafe

I’m sorry, I don’t understand option 1 (eek). What do you mean by “with a collar?” Are those in the pic not threaded adapters? I sent a message to the smith asking about the 5/8-24 threads, but haven’t received a response yet. It seems like 9/16-24 would be preferred over 1/2-28? I really don’t...

    Concerned this might be unsafe

I’ve got a Tikka 308 with a muzzle diameter of 0.650. I’ve done some research and evidently that diameter is insufficient to safely have the muzzle threaded 5/8-24. I learned that I can have my barrel threaded 1/2-28 and use a 1/2-28 to 5/8-24 adapter, and this seems like a good solution. I’ve...

    Why not magazines?

I don’t want one, but that’s just because I don’t really use my shotgun much and didn’t see a reason for it. But I assumed that the military or LE communities who use the shotguns I was referencing in the OP would want more capacity. Now I understand why that’s not the case lol. Thanks for all...

    Why not magazines?

Just came across a belt-carrier product designed to assist a shooter with rapidly moving shells from belt to shotgun, and it lead me to wonder why all the manufacturers of the world’s finest shotguns still use a tube feed design instead of detachable magazines. At least in shotguns designed for...

    Homeowner’s Insurance?

I’m wondering if anyone here has had the experience of filing an insurance claim for firearms or related items after a house damage issue (flood/fire) or theft. Are these sorts of items commonly covered by homeowners insurance? Or are there specific insurance companies that I should inquire...

    Tip-Down Carry?

Maybe my sorta-limited experience with different types of knives was a contribution to my naïveté on the subject. For instance, I’ve only ever owned fixed blade knives or “basic” folding knives with a lock-back design. Never owned a flipper, assisted-opening knife, etc. At any rate, I appreciate...

    Tip-Down Carry?

As far as the possibility of catching the blade and cutting oneself with a tip-up knife, I can see how that might be an issue depending on the knife. With my tip-up Spyderco, the blade is facing my rear when it sits in my pocket. So even if it wasn’t fully closed, I couldn’t possibly cut myself...

    Tip-Down Carry?

Asking why someone does something a particular way is bold?? The “not wanting to start an argument” bit was basically to say “for those of you who carry tip-down, I’m not attacking you - I’m asking why you do it. As in, what are the advantages over tip-up (which seems to me to have clear...

    Tip-Down Carry?

Not to start an argument here, but why would anyone ever carry a “tactical folding knife” in the tip-down configuration? Years ago, when I got my first Spyderco, the idea of tip-up carry seemed foreign and sketchy. It was my first knife with a pocket clip so I had never considered the option at...
