I have several hammer mounted FP versions and one of the newer type. The newer one also has the MIM parts. The older guns sound more solid when you dryfire them. The new versions sound tinny. It is probably just the mim parts. They shoot fine however.
Robert Ball's book Military Mauser Rifles of the World would be a good start.
It is in about it's 5th edition I believe. I do have a Czech made Persian Long Rifle, very nice, sorry no pic right now.
Call the ATF! After they get in touch with him he may remember who picked it up. Unfortunately he probably already parted it out. We don't need folks like this in the business.
I use a Ruger Model 77 in 7x57 from around 1981 as my primary hunting rifle. It absolutely loves Remington Core Lokt 140 gr in the green and yellow box.

I have a Nickel plated S&W Regulation Police in .38 S&W that belonged to my Great Grand Father, the first BShepherd. The revolver is from about 1920. My uncle has an old BP Shotgun from a generation earlier.
Check out the Optics Planet affiliate DVOR. They send out an email every day with specials. They have Boyt cases and accessories on a fairly regular basis, once every month or two I think. I bought a couple of cases and some shot shell pouches on the last Boyt special.
