I love my SR 1911. Feels great, recoil is smooth, shoots better than I do, and is reliable. I have used Ruger CS before and they were nice, prompt and got my gun back ahead of schedule. Plus the stainless finish is beautiful. I have about 2500 rounds through it and its like butter...
I own both, but a 1911 is easier to carry for me. More compact, if that makes sense. But I also just love my 1911 more than any of my other handguns. It's easier to shoot, feels great in my hand, and all around is a gorgeous gun. Another .02: metal over plastic all day.
Love my Ruger
I've had it for about six months now and it runs smooth as can be. I love the look, the feel is great, and their service, should you ever need it, is superb. The gun shoots much better than I do, so I can't comment on accuracy.
Spent the day watching TV (recovering from surgery) and I can tell you CNN and virtually all the antis are in full throated roar. See mayor Blumberg's comments made within a couple hours of the shooting.

I tend to be a neat freak about my guns. I clean them every time they're used. But I have seen guys say that it's not necessary nor advisable to take them apart and clean them so often.
What do you do?
I recently contacted them and they were intelligent, nice, and very responsive. They don't hesitate to take your weapon back and work on it, an the turnaround seems quick.
Along these lines, and something I searched for but didn't find an answer is: I have an old S&W 645. It's had several thousand rounds through it, but I hadn't thought about the recoil spring being worn out until I got my new SR1911. The new 1911 shoots so much more smoothly right out if the box...
Just to make all of you non-CA gun owners feel good, (and not to digress from the thread!) let me tell you the prices you consistently quote are NOT available in this stalag-state. The govt "regulates" guns and ammo until its apparently way overpriced and therefore out of the reach of most...
Ruger SR1911 (because I just got it and it's everything I hoped it would be. It fits my hand like a glove besides being incredibly easy to shoot)
S&W 645: it was good enough for Sonny Crockett, and it's heavy enough to beat the BG to death if you run out of ammo.
Ruger P95: never EVER failed...
