Ides of March SASS Shoot Tavares, FL

Good video. I see Culpepper in the back ground. Sixgun Shamus and his wife Kay were shooting also. All belong to my home club Tusco here in Ohio. They really enjoy themselves at that match. Kay got a MDQ accidental discharge on the weekend match.

    H&R Huntsman

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe somebody got hurt when they had a hang fire and broke open the rifle and it went off hitting him in the head with the breech plug. I think they went to a threaded plug after that. It has been a long time since I saw one, a friend of mine had one years...

Shooting My Cimarron Firearms Uberti 1873 Sporting Rifle With Black Powder

Dave 20-1 is good I have even used pure lead for SASS. But you have the right idea keep them soft and sized for the barrel. I size my big lube bullets .430 but I have to check them with a cartridge gage to check for chambering. I wished the nose dia was smaller so it did not have to be...

Shooting My Cimarron Firearms Uberti 1873 Sporting Rifle With Black Powder

I use big lube bullets I cast myself in my 44-40 1866. I use 50/50 beeswax and 100% pure neatsfoot oil in a 19" barrel. I normally use 2f powder but am only hitting steel targets. Some SASS shooters swap their barrel after 10 shots if they have fouling build up at the muzzle. If you are...

    1866 Winchester in " Heaven's Gate"

Just a quick check on the internet it looks like Winchester made the 1866 up until 1898! http://proofhouse.com/win/winchester.htm Also confirmed in R.L. Wilson's book on Winchester rifles.

    J-Bar this is for you

Yes it is a spring loaded firing pin hit by the hammer. I used the original cyl. I machined off the rear of it to get rid of the nipple threads. The original bores are few thou. under .375. I reamed them with a .375 dia reamer and then sleaved them down to fit the case and throat for...

    J-Bar this is for you

I will bring it if we can get rid of all this snow by then! I am running out of room to shovel it! When this winter is over I will be well qualified to get a retirement job of cleaning out barn stalls.

    J-Bar this is for you

I built it in .32 S&W long for 3 reasons. 1 With .370 dia head size I did not have to machine the teeth away on the cyl. 2 I used the original cylinder and it is proofed for black powder only. 3 I saw a pic. of a 1860 conversion in McDowell's book. The firing pin is in the conversion ring...
