Georgia HB 89 Passes - Say goodbye to the Public Gathering Clause

Glad to see that. Been waiting to renew/transfer my permit until i can do so without that stupid clause plastered all over the back.

    the law on sound suppressors

$200 transfer tax, yes. If you sell it the buyer will have to do the same. No recurring tax otherwise.

Basis for outrage (should have been "Basis for the Argument")

Wrong. The Constitution recognizes & enumerates a limited palate of pre-existing rights. There was a big argument among the Founding Fathers over including a Bill Of Rights at all on the grounds that by doing so it would be construed, incorrectly, exactly the way you believe. That's why the...

I asked Obama about Gun Control...

Strictly speaking, BHO may very well be fine with you owning automatic weapons; the current system allows you to do so at a 15x markup on >20-year-old used arms, plus a $200 tax and paperwork, under threat of draconian punishment, coupled with outright bans in many jurisdictions. As things stand...

    ObomaNation Effect?

While demand has increased relative to supply and thus pushed up prices (there IS a war on consuming the stuff, and basic materials are increasingly popular), don't forget that the value of a dollar is falling fast.

Help! I want to get a rifle before potential bans go into effect and am clueless

Short answer (lots of good long ones above): Major brand (Colt, Armalite, Bushmaster, DPMS) AR15 "M4gery", 16" barrel. 2000 rounds of M855-type ammo. (Leave 1000 in the sealed case; use & replace other as needed for training.) Much discussion may be had over alternatives, but that will...

Sighting Systems on Home Defense guns

I think a distinction should be made between battery-operated sights which need be switched on prior to immediate use (one more thing to fumble with under extreme distress), vs. those that can be left on for years (grab and go, it's already on).

Defense Tech: Army (might) Abandon "Leap" for M4 Replacement

The Army is a very large organization. I'd be shocked if they didn't have a group constantly looking into potential equpipment upgrades, regardless of overall likelyhood or intentions.

What is the purpose of the Militia?

Just one reason of many. The core of our nation is our Constitution; a rogue* government is not submissive thereto, so it is not our government but a domestic enemy. It is the enemies of the people, foreign and domestic, for which the people are armed and from which a militia may be raised on...

    Useful Automatic Fire

I've passed the DEA subgun qualifier (with an MP5). Full auto really isn't a big deal, folks - if you're going to fire a round into a perp then 2-5 rounds will probably be preferable, and keeping them all on target isn't that hard. Only real issue with automatic fire is not running out of ammo.

New York State AWB - preban 30rd mags OK in post ban gun?

Entirely legal. ...whether the officer examining the situation thinks so may, er, complicate things.

What kind of handgun can be used as self –defense.?

He's trying to kill you. You're trying to scare him. How do you expect this to turn out?

    Sass

What's the latest on the SASS (AR10 Semi Auto Sniper System) platform? Another thread led me to the Panther™ LRT-SASS for $2109, which got me wondering what the recent developments surrounding the the whole SASS concept are.

    Colt "Officer" AR-15

There are plenty of Colt AR15 models which are intended for law enforcement use, and marked accordingly. Particular example: the Colt 6933 is dubbed an "M4LE" model - "M4 for Law Enforcement".
