I object on different grounds. If we accept a tax on ammo, isn't that like saying that guns are the problem with school shootings? And isn't school safety everyone's problem? Why would responsible gun owners be singled out to pay for something that every taxpayer has a stake in?
I also am in the market for a .22 mag. I've got a Marlin 25MN and just love it, but want another to leave un-scoped. I looked at GunBroker, usually they're swimming in them, but now you can practically hear the crickets. A half dozen lever guns and that was about it.
I think we're missing something more sinister here. In order for guns to be insured, they will need to be known to the insurance companies. Doesn't that amount to registration?
