    Revolver cartridges and lube

As we all know, one problem of a lubricated wad in a percussion revolver is that lube can get into the powder after awhile. So another wad underneath the lubed wad is a very good idea. By the way these are perfect for a '36' Colt, Remington, etc (Midway has only 2 of these bags full in stock). I...

    Firing "Non-Firing Indian Replicas??

I have the double barreled flintlock pistol from Middlesex, if the flint is good it fires everytime, one of my most reliable. The onery old cute who runs the place has a FAQ: http://www.middlesexvillagetrading.com/faq.shtml ...quote Q #26: Are these functioning muskets that can actually be...

    Pietta .36 cap and ball

Bottom of chart is for steel frame revolvers only, not brass frames. The grains is by volume of measure setting, NOT by weight (Pyrodex volumes do not weigh the same as black powder). 20 is max for brass frames (filling the void with cream of wheat to make the balls come to just barely barely...

    Percussion caps source

Hey, WilTx, if you are still monitoring this thread... did BassPro charge you hazmat for ordering ship to store? It used to be they didn't charge for that, but this last time I shipped caps to store they did charge hazmat fees. hazmat was $14.00 fee which is cheaper than MIdway used to charge ($35).

    Percussion caps source

As of today Bass Pro percussion caps in stock. Both Remington and CCI brand. At least one brand of each of these: #10, 11, and wing musket. Note: If you search for 'percussion caps' you will only find their CCI. Search for 'remington primers' to find their Remington caps. They will ship CCI...

    Which Handgun For Personal Defense?

I think those who are familiar with guns already know their choice. For anyone unfamiliar, especially women, the Shield Easy S&W's are easy to recommend because rounds poke down effortlessly into the magazine and the slide is easy peasy to pull back (light springs everywhere). And they come in...

    Smoking Alternative

I must agree with post #18 (APP) and all the recommendations of Buckhorn 209 for less dirty shooting. These are two substitutes are less corrosive after shooting, than Pyrodex or 777 in my limited experience. Real black smells best I would say. APP seems the least corrosive. Buckhorn is close...

    Black Powder Books

One cool thing about the Lyman BP manual (1st edition), it gives ffffG loads for all cap and ball revolvers, even the dragoons. Also ffG and fffG to be sure, but it does have ffffG loads too for all of them.

    Black Powder Books

For the pre flintlock era, (which the author calls 'firearms' because they really use fire ignition and not the later technologies like flint sparks or percussion), there is no better coffee table book than this old Stackpole book. Large format about 250 pages, and fully illustrated with old...

BP .38 Spl Loads in Colt 1851 Cartridge Conversion

check the reviews in that link on midway, someone named David wrote: "I have a Pietta 1858 Remington replica in .36 caliber with a .38 special conversion cylinder. I've used lead HBWC bullets with great success. When I saw these plated HBWC bullets I thought about trying them too. The Berry's...

    ...............44 .451's

As for 36 caliber read this Dixie review.... complaints the .380 is too large, they had to drive the balls out with a punch. It worked great with .375. I find this to be true on my .36 Colt 2nd generation 1862 police (had to use .375, .380 too large)...

I’ve decided on my third black powder gun

I read interesting website page on Hollywood westerns. It detailed how Eastwood carried two fake rubber Walkers in Josey Wales. Real guns were substituted in scenes where he took them out to shoot. I have a Walker (now defarbed). Pleasant to hold and shoot but no way would I carry it around on a...

Where to Buy? What's in Stock? 1860's at Bud's for $271.

Two more big sites: Taylors and Cimmaron. If you buy BOTH a gun and cartridge converter cylinder (for shooting modern ammunition brass cartridges in a percussion revolver), then Taylors will fit the cylinder to the gun free before shipping it (if you ask them to). This is a good way to obtain...
