Evaluating Your Daily Carry Gun and Holster

I do the range training of our church Safety Team. I wanted a quick, simple. yet practical course of fire. I start them out cold on this each time. I borrowed some of the lessons learned from the church shooting in White Settlement. TX 3 Second 10 Rd Church Standards PASSING=100% Target...

Five shots at about 5 yards in 5 seconds.

Evaluating Your Daily Carry Gun and Holster

the problem I’ve run into posting questions like this is that individual “standards” are either non-existent (“I’m good enough to cut a man in 1/2 and that’s good enough for me”) or so obtuse it’s not useful (“I only shoot at 4” plates at 25 yards…”) EVERYBODY thinks they’re “good enough,” but...

Evaluating Your Daily Carry Gun and Holster

I find it’s easier to stipulate a known standard. This gets folks on the same page, or at least in the same book. What can you do ON DEMAND? Cold? The 5x5 drill is a good start and everyone can try it. 5 shots, 5 yards, 5 seconds on a 5” plate (or even a sheet of copy paper) from high ready...

    S&W 586 L Comp - neat!

If you're going to carry it for defense, I hope you put enough JHP's thru it to test it,control it and verify point of impact. And then shoot enough of them to maintain your Defensive capability.

Found a better home for my K-frame micarta

The S&W Model 15 is an oft overlooked gem. That looks like a pretty good one.

    IPSC Production Pistol. Comments?

Ditto If the "police guns only" competition is really important to you, then the Sig. You can master the DA/SA pull and transition, as has been proven, but it'll take significant practice.

    The Chopping Block

Without knowing threesome why or what use you'd out the remaining gun to, the clear answer is the Glock 19

When I say "fast," I'm talking about drawing, firing six on target, reload, fire six more on target in 6-8 seconds max. Hand size is a factor, as well. If you're able to hit the mag release without shifting your grip, then it's one less shift to do. But if you do need to shift the gun slightly...

As far as the texture "locking in" the grip, that's not necessarily a good thing. Revolver Ace Jerry Miculek requires a smooth grip to allow adjusting his grasp if needed. If you miss it, you're "locked in" incorrectly. If you need to move your hand to activate the mag release, etc, it's...

I suppose it depends how rough it is, but I don't want aggressive stippling in any area where my hand is moving around it to get the grip. The web of the hand is a tender area for most people and the discomfort of aggressive texture there makes itself apparent pretty fast.

I've been trying to post a picture showing what I meant about the blended edges, but it keeps kicking me off the forum. How did you do the grip reduction?

The iron wasn't held consistently at the same angle. In fact, it looks a bit "patchy," as one section was held at a different angle than the adjacent section. The problem is, these sections appear in the same grip panel. Also, the borders are not crisp and clean in various places. But aside...

A couple cosmetic things jump out at me, but functionally speaking, taking the stippling all the way up the back strap is a mistake, in my opinion. Take a gun class with it and you'll quickly find out why.
