I'm not even sure why the 7mm-08 gained the popularity that it did. The 7X57 has been around for over 100 years and their ballistics are virtually the same. Go with the 7X57, it a classic and stylish.;)
Several people mentioned XTP's. Personally, if I was planning on hunting and/or running into a bear, I would not want hollow-points. In the 25+ years that I lived in Alaska, I carried a .41 mag (S&W Model 57 6"), or a .44 mag (S&W Model 29 6"), when I was in bear country. I always used jacketed...
Ok, I just need to do this--I need to "nitpick." If you are looking for a bear gun, you better start looking at some large, centerfire rifles, because no pistol is a bear gun. No pistol is going to be great for bear. Sure, it's a helluva lot better than nothing, and it's better than bear spray...
Just make good shots and you'll be fine. You can still reload, it just takes a little longer. Seriously, I wouldn't worry about the number of rounds the gun holds too much. It's not like you're elephant hunting...Just make smart shooting decisions.
I would get the S&W Model 19 over the others any day of the week. I really don't think that $495 is too bad of a deal. Personally, I wouldn't want a nickel plated anything (I'm a wood and bluing guy, but will make a "stainless exception" is the gun is that good), but if that's your bag, I'm sure...
Loosedhorse,
It's more difficult to get the barrels regulated, i.e. to get the bullets to shoot in the same spot at a given range (usually around 50 meters/yards), when they are next each other, than when they are sitting on top one another.
Well I am definitely a DA revolver fan, especially S&W. The only semi-auto that I feel is a "must own" is a 1911. Give me a Smith any day of the week. I have several and they are all my favorite pistols. I find it kind of funny that some people don't think they are as effective as semi's. As one...
What kind of repairs are you talking about? I can't imagine it's so beyond repair that it's not worth fixing. So, let's hear what your dealing with...It sounds like your talking about an old car or something.
Have you looked at the muzzle and crown? Damage to the muzzle will cause bullets to fly incorrectly. Out of curiosity, what is the accuracy like (when the bullets don't keyhole)? How long have you been using that load with and without problems (when did you start noticing problems)? And does it...
First of all, in response to someone taking a 1000+ yard shot while hunting: :barf:! Second, what is all this stuff about people "whooping and hollering" after the animal goes down?! Do people really do that? I have been hunting for a LONG time and honestly, I have never seen anyone do that. If...
As an answer to the initial question: I already have all three and would still buy another .22 mag. In other words, yes, I would buy one. Hope that answers the question.
