To me a squib has always been a bullet partially down the chamber
A FTF is what I would call your situation. Or.... A "dud"
I would wait 20-30 seconds
I had your situation occur in a few cases with a box or two of old 1950s Yugo 8mm mauser ammo.....
I ended up putting them to the side... not...
Add another to the camp of He is too young...........
Its awesome that you are planning time with your boy..... many fathers dont
There are plenty of non lethal options for a 4 year old to learn on
I would go for a longer barrel than 16 inch if you are going 6.5
That round does better with a longer barrel, and the extra speed
My personal max range at hunting is 300 yards. It has to be exactly perfect shot at that range though.
I feel that if I had a bad shot,
(yeah.... in the woods...
My 6.8 has been a fantastic rifle
It shoots the Hornady SST 120g and maintains 1000ft lbs at 275 yards
I would probably still take a shot at 300 yards with this bullet
It has dropped some very big Texas pigs.......
First off........ The 300BLK is an awesome round and many people seem happy with it.
For a hunter, you do get significantly improved range (using 1kft lbs as a guage)
over the 300blk with both the 6.8 and 277 Wolverine
I get a little over 275 yards at 1k ft lbs. with a 120g Hornady SST
(My...
Cheap Mobile 1 and CLP mix..............
Cheap Gun Grease on rails..............
No Rust, No Problems
Not much reason to look at the latest.......
Unless it makes my bullets shoot straighter.....
I just stay with what works
I had a Bersa 40 that kicked hard, my wife hated it
For some reason my Shield 40 doesnt bother her.
My 229 in 40 is tame
I am a creature of habit. I like the 40 because of its barrier performance
(glass steel) seems to be significantly better than a 9mm
There isnt the huge differnce there...
Not quite a 30 cal but my 6.8 will drive a 120g bullet to 1kft lbs past 275 yards
A little further if I want to load the SST a little heavier
Its in a AR15 platform, and is light...... and definitly kicks less than a 308
It is my DRT bullet on big Texas pigs
If you are going to hunt, I would do the 6.8. I use it for the Texas pigs.
I made the same choice a few years back and love the stopping power of the 6.8. I used an awesome Bison Armory upper
Additionally, there are some awesome bullets for the 6.8
I use a 120g Hornady SST.
It gets...
I look at deadly force as the last possible choice. (Like I bet you do)
I fear that rounds coming back at me, because I chose to pull and shoot, may actually hit my loved ones or possibly a child around me. (Its been said that police hit less than 30%........ I bet the "thug class" is less...
Also a Texan.
What a great state.
As a CC, I will probably NOT open carry in most situations.
I believe that there is a proper time and a place for everything
If I am in the middle of a crowd, in downtown Dallas.......... IMHO, not where I am going to OC.
I will just throw a comment out...
We may agree to disagree on this comment.
Look at the best Hornady 7.62x39 bullet for hunting
Look at the best Hornady 6.8 bullet for hunting
At 300 Yards the 6.8 has 40% more energy than a 7.62x39
Not sure what you are looking at .... but that's a LARGE difference at least to me
for what I...
