Heading up rt 93 in NH next week

Shooters Outpost - a few miles south of Riley's on Rt. 3. They were well-stocked with ammo and some reloading supplies (primers, particularly) when I last stopped in. http://outpostnh.com/ Owned by Jim McCloud of Manchester Firing Line. Marshall Firearms - 154 N. Main St. in Boscawen...

How to relate target accuracy to an angle

BCRider's procedure in Post #4 is correct, but the example (both examples, actually) is not . . . 10 yards is 360 inches (not 120), so the correct MOA is 9.5, not 28.6.

    aquilla ammunition

I've used the cheaper of the two Aguila lots of .22LR SV ammo they sell through CMP in Bullseye competition for the last several years. It feeds and functions flawlessly through my Walther GSP and is every bit as accurate as CCI SV, based on moderately extensive testing from the bench.

Old "S&W 38 Special CTG" with 6" barrel

With that serial number, it can't be a 10-5 or a 10-6. According to SCSW, a serial number between 6D10001 and 7D10000 indicates 1980, so with the tapered barrel it should be a 10-7, introduced in 1977 and replaced by the 10-9 in 1988 (10-8 was the heavy barrel version of 10-7).

Poor Boy Trigger Job Ruger New Vaquero

I have three Vaqueros (if I've followed the tit for tat correctly, they would be "New Model" but Old, er . . . make that Original, er . . . make that just Vaquero) that I use for CAS that I've unhooked one leg of the trigger return spring on. The improvement was huge, and I've had no troubles...

New To Me 681 No Dash

Yes, the recall involved the no-dash and -1 581, 681, 586 and 686 models. If it's been back to the mothership for the recall it'll have an "M" overstamped in the frame cutout next to the model number. If not, S&W is still doing the modification at no cost.

    Smith model 586 price check

I honestly don't know - I'm just passing along what's printed in the SCSW (3rd Edition, p. 271), which is pretty clear about it, indicating that the -2 models were introduced specifically because they incorporated the new hammer nose and bushing design. The book has contained some minor errors...

    Smith model 586 price check

$750 sounds a bit steep to me, even in mint condition. For comparison, I recently picked up a 4" 586 in excellent (not mint) condition for $550, which I thought was a good price, but not a steal by any means. The recall affected all no-dash and -1 586/686/581/681 models. The problem involved...

    Blood lead levels

We're of equivalent age. I'm planning on living long enough so that it makes sense for me to take reasonable precautions now to protect my health. You say you know your serum lead concentration and have (correctly) determined it's not a problem for you. That's very different from ignoring...

    Blood lead levels

Why do you seem to think the only choices are to either (1) ignore (and at the same time denigrate those who try to point out) a potential risk in the face of overwhelming evidence that it exists or (2) assume that nothing short of total cessation of anything related to the shooting sports can...

    Lead Poisoning --Valuable Health Information

I don't think there's any question about that. Biological systems are inherently stochastic (as is the universe, according to quantum theory) and humans are no exception.

Looking for feedback on my bullseye for new shooters tutorial

This is the one thing I was also planning to add. It requires a lot of mental discipline - there's always this thinking that "I can hold a bit longer and just get this one off." In addition to the "time to abort" indicators Mike enumerated, I'll add one more: The moment that the thought...

    Lead Poisoning --Valuable Health Information

I'm sorry but this statement is meaningless at best, and potentially harmful to those trying to understand and manage their lead exposure. First, measurements have no meaning without the units that those measurements are given in, and second, there has to be a clear understanding of what's...

    Blood lead levels

I'll just add a little real-world data, which I posted some time ago in the sticky thread on the same subject. A few years ago, when I was somewhat more active in Bullseye competition than I am now, between matches and practice sessions I was shooting in indoor ranges about 5 or 6 evenings a...

S&W 686 No Dash: Stamp on rear face of cylinder?

My understanding is that the "2 M" stamp is limited to guns that were manufactured for the U.S. Customs Service (as yours was, as indicated by the "CS 1" stamp in the yoke). The "M" was overstamped by S&W to indicate that the firing pin bushing mod was done, then re-inspected by the Customs...
