2020 kill thread

Late in the season for me, I finally got one tonight. Cooler weather really helped. Nothing coming in on calling. 35 yards with a bow. Kind of a long one for me.

    2300FPS from a 10.5" barrel?!?

That’s right at what I have gotten from mine. Hand loads with CFE BLK and a 123 grain SST came in at over 2350fps. For me that’s 150 yard hunting territory. I lost about 125 to 150 FPS from the 16 inch barrel.

    9mm revolvers

I have 3 9mm revolvers. The dual cylinder Ruger Blackhawk is very pleasant to shoot. The Charter does kick, but with the 6 inch barrel, it is very accurate and easy to stay on target with. My LCR does have a blast, but in my hands does not have much kick. I vote charter!

    Options for 6.5 Grendel uppers

I just got the PSA Grendel with a 20 inch barrel and have had 1.5 inch groups with Wolf ammo. I have only shot reloads with real ammo, but have been pleasantly surprised with right at one inch accuracy with no work ups. All the ammo was prepared for bolt actions. The upper came dirty and dry...

    2019-2020 hunting picture thread

Almost forgot to post. Both my son and I got what we were after with a bow. My son especially should be pleased shooting a 10 year old declining buck. He had only two chances to go out before finals and was able to get a great shot the last minute possible on his last hunt.

Best powder for 95 grain SST in 243 besides IMR 4064????

For my young son and that bullet, I found an accuracy node right at 34 grains of Varget. A bit less velocity, but I don’t notice it game. The load has stuck long after he has matured. It’s been that good.

30-30 spire point Bullets. Yay or Nay?

Plain old Federal Fusion 62gr. will work great. I use the higher velocity stuff, though they make a special lower velocity for MSR. It's bonded, though not really a premium bullet. One doe was a through and through.

30-30 spire point Bullets. Yay or Nay?

I will back up and suggest a 223. I have shot my 30-30 since I started hunting, but primarily enjoy bow hunting for my buck. With does, I will use the old 30-30, 357 mag, or some other reloaded caliber, but tried a 223 a couple of times last year. All of my 223 reloads were for varmits so I...

    Ruger American 7.62X39 owners

I have both, and though I love the CZ, it is too nice for some of the things I do to it. I use cast, Hornady bullets with appropriately charged loads for the .311 123 grain, and FTX .308 sized 135 and 160 grain bullets. These loads are all exceptionally accurate. The buck was killed with 166...

    Fence The Feeders

Land around Pawnee, specifically on the Hellroaring creek area. I talked to a game warden there yesterday, and he said they were busily making feverish attempts to eliminate hogs without much progress and are frustrated. Land owners creating a haven or preserve for hogs are met with disdain...

    Fence The Feeders

For some time now I have considered buying a piece of land in Oklahoma and then of course having a couple of bait station running all the time hoping hogs would drop by. Couldn't care less about hunting deer in Oklahoma. Its fairly far North in the state, but the land looks to be loaded with...

    30th Birthday Rifle

Handle as many as you like. I started with a Marlin made in 75 and now have another 6 of them. I have owned a Winchester (3), and own them no more. Its' as individual as Ford and Chevy. I like to scope mine as I will shoot them farther than most. I have astigmatism and a few other issues...

Ruger American Ranch 7.62x39 Follow up

I agree. I reload, and really like reloading. However, it’s nice to shoot such cheap ammo I don’t have to load for. Also surprised how far this gun kills with ease. 300 yards for a coyote, and 214 yards for a doe.

Ruger American Ranch 7.62x39 Follow up

With ours, it’s always available, so every critter gets shot with it. We have the CZ in several calibers as well. We still like this more than the 6.5 Grendel in the Ruger predator.
