Picture of 1858 .44 Fired in the Dark

In that picture above, how did the hammer get in the cocked position and fire at once? Is that how much force comes through the nipple?

    What's in your hunting rig?

Having just finished getting my hunting rig ready for the season, I was wondering what some of you guys are using for hunting. My rig consists of a .50 cal T/C New Englander, and a Pietta 1858 remington. Sorry about that scope, but my old eyes ain't what they used to be, and in my...

    Remington capping issues

I opened my capping windows with a Dremel and 1/4" sanding drum. I had trouble capping this gun even with a straight capper.

    Help! Broken loading lever lug!

Well after consulting my extremely busy gunsmith, who tells me he will be happy to make me a new dovetail latch, he can't do it for for several days. As I really wanted to do some shooting this weekend, I decided to try some 60/40 solder. So far it is holding well and I have emptied seven...

    Help! Broken loading lever lug!

I have a Pietta 1858, that the loading lever catch retainer popped off. I understand that these lugs are silver soldered in place. The question I have is, should I solder it back in place, or upgrade to a dovetail? Can I use 60/40 acid core, or will it have to be silver solder, and If I solder...

    Need info please...

Yes it is .45 cal., and the rifling is good. I pulled the breech plug, and inspected everything. There isn't any pitting, and the rifling is standing proud. I was looking at it again today, and noticed a mark of some sort that I had previously over looked. I'm not sure if it means anything or...

    Need info please...

I have an Ultra-Hi cap lock that I am trying to find out about. It is a .45 cal made in Italy, date code is 1975. What can anyone tell me about the quality of this gun, and what style is this? Who made it? I thought all Ultra-Hi's were made in Japan. I'm confused :) Here are the pics.

BP firearms designed for self defense

I would feel safe enough with my Remmie, but would be very hesitant to use it indoors. I would be afraid I would set my home on fire :). Really though, wouldn't it be a bit of a hazard indoors? My BP handguns can throw fire and sparks quite a ways.

    THR Remington 1858 Club

Here are my 1858's, nothing special to anyone but me. May I join as well? The brasser is about 12 yrs old, and has been fed a steady diet of .454's and 30 grains goex. It has also been shortened to 6.5". The 5.5 is only a couple yrs old, and is also one fine shootin iron.

    Gloves?!?!

I have been shooting BP revolvers for about 10 yrs, and have never experienced a chain fire. I once had a couple pinched #11 caps fall off the nipples during recoil, and still no problem. I guess I was just lucky that day, I use only #10's now so that I don't push my luck :)
