I have a Star Firestar M40 but it falls out of the date range being produced in the 90's
No soft steel or issues with mine. Many many 150 grain rounds pushed thru it with a full charge of Blue Dot.
I had a pt111 it went bang every time. trigger was the worst of any handgun I owned.

I have a 92 SBP Italian with a 96 USA Slide.
They look like they were made at the same time. no difference in color or finish and the 96 slide would have to be at least ten years younger.

It was somewhat controllable at the at the 10 yard target I was firing at bursting about 5 rounds at a time. If I held the trigger down I think it would have been pulling off the target.

Mine would not get thru a mag without jamming using std velocity ammo.
It would cycle fine with hyper velocity ammo but the manual said not to use hyper velocity ammo.
