I just got a pair last week. My rail is from Fulton Armory so I'm guessing is is up there in quality. The rear ring was very loose and needed a lot of tightening to get it on firmly. That was a major chore with the slotted screw heads. Better screws would cost what, an extra buck? Anything...

I'm guessing it has something to do with a low angle of attack and skipping. Just like when we sidearm flat rocks and they end up going much farther than they would if they didn't skip. Just a guess. Maybe something for MythBusters
