    gun safe dings

Keep the safe 75% full? Who has that kind of self control?

OK you hunters,,,What size handgun do you use to hunt with?

Got a deer a couple years back with a Smith 460 mag and Hornady 200g ammo, the plastic tipped ones at 2100fps. Topped with a 2x weaver scope. Impressive performance from that cartridge. Just don't ever think you can shoot it even once without ear protection. That never got all the way better...

    FTF laws in Wisconsin

Just as a CYA most sellers here require you to show a CC license and another photo ID (since CC doesn't have photo in WI) to protect themselves from selling to a prohibited person. It's more than the law requires, but protects the seller.

Is it time? Sons first target practice

My kids at 4 and 10 are happy to go to the "shooting club" to hang out with dad, walk in the woods, pick up brass (bonus!) or shoot. The shooting part might only be 10-30 minutes, but it's great bonding time with the kids. This is Xander last summer at 3 with his big sister's Cricket rifle...

    s&w customer service?

I've only had to use Smith service once, but they were quick, paid shipping both ways, and it worked perfectly when returned. That was probably 2 years ago or so.

Scoping Marlin 1895GS - Advice for friend

Unless he's in love with the scout scope look, a traditional mount will give a WAY wider field of view. I'd stick a low powered variable on there with a conventional mount and call it good. By the way, that gun can be VERY accurate. I have a 45/70 that does 1/2-3/4" 50 yard 3 shot groups with...

What's your opinion of Savage Arms rifles and shotguns?

2 hits and a miss. I usually shoot hunting rifles in 3 shot groups. And that miss could well be my fault rather than the gun. Old guys with old eyes....... But that miss would still be a hit on a deer. My Savage 93 in 17HMR is rather accurate as well. But the plastic stock feels really...

What's your opinion of Savage Arms rifles and shotguns?

My Savage Axis 30-06 bought used for $180 shoots like this with an old Kmart brand (no kidding, really) 4x scope on it. Pre Accutrigger. First load tried at 100 yards, I don't feel the need to experiment any farther. It's light weight, has a nice recoil pad.

What was the first revolver you ever shot, and what was the first one you purchased?

First one I shot was some kind of 22 revolver, at the gravel pit with a friend of my parents. I was probably about 7 years old. Didn't own one until I was in my 30's, and the first I bought was a Smith 460XVR.

9.3x62 vs 338 Lapua for African plains game

Most large caliber guns bought used will have a low round count and minimal use. Although I'd still want to see it in person, shoot it if possible, rather than buying online....

9.3x62 vs 338 Lapua for African plains game

The .375 ain't that bad recoil wise. In the same neighborhood as a 12ga magnum turkey load or slug. Not fun after the first 5 or 10, but manageable. Where are you located? Maybe you can meet up with a member that has one and try it out.

    Estwing hatchet

If you are already a Kroil fan, their ExRust product is great for removing rust. Or stick the exposed metal portion in a plastic container of Coke or vinegar for a few days. I like car was for an anti-rust coating on bare metal, especially the new high tech silicone based ones. That's what...

first steps with shooting for my 10-year-old daughter should be?

My daughter is the same age. For quite a while she thought .22s were too loud, even with good earmuffs. So we shot Aguila Super Colibri's for a while, they are so quiet you can hear the round cutting through the cardboard target. BB guns are a great intro, too. And you can shoot at home...

Tapering Stepped Barrel and Fixing Barrel Channel in Stock

I'd use epoxy resin and wood flour to fill that gap. Wood flour is super fine sawdust, with a much smoother texture. I usually buy it from bateau.com, a pound is about $5 or $7 and will probably bed all the guns you ever own. Epoxy is extremely environmentally resistant once cured so it'll...

    Jammed XD 9mm

In my case, the ammo was a little oversize and jammed into the chamber, just short of allowing the action to close all the way and fire. A little oil and application of some pretty significant force pulled it right back out.
