    If your gun is not an in-line, I’d start by removing the nipple and trickling BLACK powder into the barrel. Replacing the nipple and firing the gun.     Dad was a hunter and fisherman. I got a 22 on my 5th birthday, got it taken away the same year for shooting holes in the barn roof. Got my first deer with my 25-20 at 12 years.

    I get those rings on my S&W 357 all the time. Wipes off with a lead removal cloth.
