S&W Model:17-4, is it really normal?

Nice gun and well worth getting fixed by a "smith who knows what he is doing, and familiar with S&W'S in paticular. There are qualified 'smiths out there such as Grant Cunningham and others who will do a good job. First see if you can figure out/explain the problem in more detail and let's see if...

S&W Model:17-4, is it really normal?

Based on what you have related RE: no rib and the ser.#, you have a pre-war Outdoorsman.Circa mid to late thirty's. It's possible at that age it has worn somewhere to cause the problem. Parts will be difficult to find and a qualified gunsmith will be needed to diagnose/repair the gun. Keep us...

S&W Model:17-4, is it really normal?

a few things, 1. does the barrel have a rib on it? 2.if it does, the ser# on the grip base should have a K in it somewhere,if it a post 1957 model, the model # should be on the frame inside/opposite the yoke. 3. the .38 Special K-14 target revolver was on occasion modified to S/A only, not the...

    S&W M-19 barrel swap?

Swapping barrels is an easy job for a competent, knowledgeable gunsmith with the correct tools. Cutting the barrel is not the best choice. The fitted parts are usually considered to be the fire control parts. changing the barrel on a common 19-? would not affect history any more that changing...

    S&W mod 10 help - remove cylinder

First, newer S&W, (I assume that is what you have) have backwards threads. Without the correct tools, here's what you might try. 1. Place at least 3 better 6 empty fired shell cases in the Cyc. charge holes. 2. clamp the ejector rod between 2 pieces of wood held in a vice and unscrew the...

What Smith is just a little smaller than a 686?

Would suggest first try some different grips, but to answer your question the next smaller frame is a K frame, such as model 13, 19, 65, 66. Still the grips are the problem, and the answre. Brad

    S&W cleaning

Properly removing the sideplate for cleaning will not harm the gun in any way and should be done on occasion to clean dried oil and other gunk and to properly re-oil the parts.

    Question on a Smith & Wesson 27-2 P.D. stamped

The P.D. stamping should not decrease the value except for the finiky of purest who turn their nose at anything less than 99.9% . The stamping may actually increase the value to those who collect P.D. marked guns. Any 3&1/2" 27 will be highly prized. It is said to limit the exposure of Amonia...
