    The RUGER OLD ARMY Club

Thanks very much for the info and link Sistema1927. Much appreciated, as I had never heard of them before. Made my own oversized grips for two of my Blackhawks years ago. Rugers grip sizes also seem short to me, but those Alta's on your gun sure look neat, so think I'll get a pair for my OA...

Beautiful looking OA, Sistema 1927. May I ask who made those grips, and where you purchased them? Is Altamont the maker? Have fun shootin' this puppy. You'll love it! Joe

Pyrodex, Triple 7, or the real deal...

I go with the "real deal"!

Anyone built a filntlock or percussion cap pistol using a kit?

I built a Flintlock Pistol about 48 years ago. Started out as a CVA .45 Cal. kit I received for my 21st birthday. The stock was so warped it was unusable, so I made my own from a nice piece of Walnut. Made the trigger and brass pieces from scratch, as the ones from CVA were basically junk. The...

    Lefever Nitro Special Cocking

Been a long time since I messed with a NS Lefever. I think you could make a retainer block like I did just using straight in screws to hold the plunger instead of angled screws. Not sure, but worth a try perhaps? Can't recall exactly why I angled them. Best of luck! Joe

    Lefever Nitro Special Cocking

The Aluminum retainer with the two angled screws holds the mainsprings under compression while you remove the hammer cross pin and hammers. The long rod fits in a drill press to compress the mainspring slightly, to allow the angled screws on the Al plate to hold the springs in place. The notch...

    Lefever Nitro Special Cocking

The cocking rod should come out by removing the pin that goes thru the cams. I would suspect a weak sear spring with lot's of crud is keeping the sear from engaging the hammer notch. Or the hammer notch sear surfaces are worn. I would suggest removing all the innards and thoroughly cleaning and...

    03 Springfield, 1905 mods, still in 30-03

Thanks a bunch tark. That's how I remember it the last time I was there. Back in '72(?), there were no glass enclosures that I can recall along the main walls; was wide open most places. Loved the outdoor display of howitzers, tanks, etc; last time I was there. The shot up Sherman sure made me...

    03 Springfield, 1905 mods, still in 30-03

Thanks for posting this tark. The John Browning Museum at Rock Island Arsenal is one of the coolest museums I've ever been able to visit. Great piece of history! First went there about 1972 if I recall, and just about everything was wide open, including a whole lot of Colt Army issue single...

Welcome D.Buck, those are beautiful! Your photo's are so nice. Mine pale in comparison. Love the nice checkered grips and especially the round butt grips on the custom .36. Great workmanship. Thanks for showing these!

The "Dovenator's" Winchester: Truth or over-heated hype?

Perhaps it is a mis-print? 1500, though still a slaughter, is probably feasible.

    Should I Buy a Sleeved/Lined Shotgun?

I've only seen one sleeved double for real. It was a magnificent Hi Grade Lefever that had "Sleeved by Westley Richards" tastefully engraved on the barrels in gold filled lettering. A customer brought it to my shop to show it to me. He had sent it to England to be sleeved, and refinished, Just...

    Should I Buy a Sleeved/Lined Shotgun?

You can see the faint line of the sleeve joint in the 3rd photo, about 4-5" forward from the breech. Nice old double. Cangrats Jessesky!

    Marlin 39 Trigger Improvement?

Put some light grease, or preferably moly -grease, on the sear and hammer notch. Then put light thumb pressure on the hammer while pulling the trigger. Do this 40 or 50 times, and it will make the trigger feel much smoother, and usually eliminate most of the creep. Do this with the gun broke...

    Ruger 10/22 Plunger

Congrat's Keyfer 55. I've made a few out of 1/8 tig welding rod in a pinch. Works great. Two tone copper look!
