    Over oil a gun?

The cold weather (Montana and Alaska) is the reason that I leave all of my firearms dry, lube and wipe. I have had misfires and crappy trigger pulls due to gelling of the oils. In southern climates I don't have experience, but can picture dust, burned powder, and general contamination being a...

    Best gun for deer

From stick bows to a .44 mag to .416. All is good and dead is dead as long as the limitations are acknowledged. My now go-to killers are either the stick bow or a 300 H&H

Quartering a big game animal/gutless method.

Started doing this 3 yrs ago. It is a time saver, even moose... But I wouldn't call it a game changer. Seems like I can keep the meat cleaner when I remove all of guts first.

    1950's era scope?

My M70, pre-'64 300 H&H with the J.Unertl also has the Buehler mounts. Very classy setup

Tikka T3. Which model to get. Advice from owners.

I purchased a SS laminated T3 in .260 a few monthes ago. Excellent fit and finish, durable in wet weather, and flat shoots better than I can. After going through a superlight phase(and not shooting them well), I wanted something with a little more weight. This fit the bill nicely.

    1950's era scope?

Just like modern scopes, if it is clear and works don't replace. I'm still using an ol' 4x J.Unertl with great success.

223 and Deer. Anyone actually had a confirmed good broadside vitals shot fail?

I grew up in Montana where shots could get long and subject to wind. My only gun at the time was a #1V in .223. I used 70gr. Speer Soft Points. Never lost a mullie, just had to be smart about it. That being said...... I now use a 300 H&H for deer, better tools:)

    Any Minimalists?

This is a big pet peeve of mine (not to mention gun safety 101) and have been "looked" at by a someone using a scope to scout, I hope that he learned his lesson after I caught up with him and broke his nose. Anyway, I only carry what is necessary. That could mean anything from 35-80lb on a 5...

    Your hunting boots?

Ha, Lowa Tibets are indeed awesome. I have some and love em. I also use Kenetrek boots. I am sold on mountaineering, goretex type boots with gators in almost all conditions. You never know when you may have to pack out with 120lb over loose scree Of course I am kind of a gear junky.

    Ruger 1 in 22-250

Barrels getting shot out that quick? My 22-250s have many thousands of rounds through them with no problems. Granted, it wouldn't be my first choice shooting prairie dogs, but then again, I usually bring several along because they all get hot. I also love #1s. In the rare case one will not...

IMR 3031 for 55gr Nosler bal tips?

I just found a great load using a .223 Ruger #1. I have to use a drop tube, but I am using 25gr of 3031 with 55gr Nosler BTs there are zero pressure signs. This may be the old powder in the metal can? I have found the data in the books vary pretty widely using 3031. Edit - Definitely start low

    Pre 64 .264 Reloading Help

Thanks for the words of encouragement. Typically I wouldn't worry too much about it, but I know this gun does fantastic with factory loads. I know it doesn't do much good because of proprietary information, but I have even pulled bullets and tried to reverse engineer. Definitely worried...

    Pre 64 .264 Reloading Help

My dad gave this to me because he couldn't get it to shoot reloads. This gun (for both of us) shoots 1/2" or better groups at 100 yds using factory Remington corlokt loads. For the life of both of us, it will not shoot better than 1". There must be some sort of magic in the factory loads...

Who uses a single shot for deer

I'm a huge fan of No.1's (in the lower 48). My .223 has killed numerous mule and whitetail deer
