There are slight differences. Between mil specs its primarily in fit and finish. Rough edges and a less-than-stallar finish coating can be expected from some cheaper models. However these days for <$100 you can get a good quality stripped lower from plenty of manufacturers.

Good write up. I have a heavily modified 10/22 that shoots darn well. Sub MOA at 50 yards. However my buddy has an old marlin that shoots just as well and the thing is stock and about 45 years old.

Build one and save $200. Palmetto State Armory has great prices on all of their stuff. Just get an assembled upper, stripped lower, lower parts kit and stock/buffer tube and slap it all together. Will run you about $650-700 and you will honestly have a better gun than all that you listed...

TC Icon is a very nice gun. Mine came from the factory with a .84 group on paper. VERY nice trigger. Its adjustable and mine breaks like a glass rod at 2.8lbs. Also the mounts are milled into the receiver so one less part to come loose. And i think they have a mail in rebate right now!

Pretty much only Deer. I'm not at the point in my life where I can go spend a week out west for mulies and there are no other long range plans in my near future. The only other use would be the trips to the range with it which stretches out to 300 yards. 3-9 is for sure good enough for deer...

I would get a power custom sear/hammer/trigger to clean up the trigger. (Mine is at 2.5lbs). With the extra 50 get your barrel reworked by one of the guys on RFC. Will be a sleeper rifle in no time.
